After just going to a spring formal dance with my gf I've realized it's time to cut my hair more butch. I'm not sure if I want a simple crew cut though, so I'm wondering if any of you had any advice/recommendations/suggestions based on my body and face type. Obviously, in the end I'll pick whatever I think is best, but I'm curious to know what you think.

here's the most recent photo of me (taken about a month ago)

I think you could pull off going really short. Either buzz it or get it cut to where you just have 1-2 inches of hair on top.

Well, I don't know if you plan on going to a hairdresser, barber, or amateur, but I highly recommend a barber.  Pre-T, I utilized short-cuts from my aunt who is a licensed hairdresser.  I thought she was doing great, but I barely passed.  I went to a barber finally, not really passing there, but the haircut was a MAJOR plus.  The barber shop cuts do wonders!  I was passing  much more just because of the tight barber cut.

Since your hair is fairly long, think what would you do with it short?  You just want it down?  Want to spike it at all?   Things like this.

Try browsing those for ideas.  Don't be afraid to print and take a photo with you.  That is what I did the first time. =)

In the second link, I think a lot of the "Medium" haircuts would suit you a little better.  Goood luck!

Great site, thanks for posting that!
I like this one http://haircutsformen.org/buzz/haircuts/buzz28.htm
My hair sticks up in the back just like his, too.

I would not recommend a buzz cut or crew cut.

Is your hair naturally tame-able? (curly, straight, kinda wavy?) What do you think will suit your style? Something funky? Something a bit more dapper? How short/long in general do you want it?

although you probably could pull off a buzz cut, i don't think it's a great idea. when i first got my hair cut and it was like one and a half inches long afterwards, i felt really naked and uncomfortable for a while. you do get used to it but you may want to start out with like a layered medium length guys haircut and then progress to a buzz cut if you think you can pull it off. after experimenting with short haircuts for a while you will find out what masculinizes your appearance and which haircuts just look awkward on you -it's different for everyone, but if you get a buzz cut and don't like it you'll be many months from a shaggy haircut, if you get a shaggy cut and don't like it you're just one pair of clippers away from a buzz haircut.

Cut it back a bit, so it looks like the way it does in your display picture. Is it called guy emo hair? No idea, but i think you'd pull that kind of style off more than anything.

I'm not sure what it's called either but I agree that you shouldn't just hack it all off.  I may get flack but I think super short is a lot of transguy's go-to hair and, to me, it looks a bit forced.  Probably something medium-shorter length with a lot of texture?
