Editors' Note: Guest blogger Jane Fae is a writer, journalist and activist in the field of sexual rights. Over the last few years, Jane's focus has been on issues of policing and the law, civil liberties and censorship in the internet age.

Anger is building within the UK's trans community today following reports that heavy-handed security during Friday's royal wedding led to at least two trans individuals being sexually assaulted - by the police.

Allegations are still to be tested, but those familiar with the UK's policing record over the last few years - bouncing from over-soft to ludicrously heavy in response to political pressures from on high - suspect there may well be more than a smidgeon of truth in the story.

I'm sorry to have to say this, but this blog and its entire tone, make me dispair.

What I find particulary disturbing is the negative comparison with the US.

The vast majority went to the festivities to have a good time and did so. Those of us who had no interest, stayed away. I'm sure that many might have claimed, other, perfectly legitimate reasons for being in London then, but anyone who knows London, will know it is very cramped and pokey. It would just be pointless to attempt to compete with this crowd.

Added to this, a number of politically motived groups, (or it might be argued, one group, with many guises), were clearly intent upon spoiling the pleasure of the majority.

I will treat comparisons with the US in the same vein as those which have attempted to compare the gun laws in the US with those in the UK.

So, questions exist but hey, let's put uncorroborated claims out on the web.  Haste in making such claims tends to result in errant claims being treated as fact, not unlike the story about the Cosmo in Vegas that was posted within the past week.

Now, that being said, the groping that allegedly took place goes on every day in airports around the US (and from discussions on FlyerTalk, in some other international airports) in a manner almost if not identical to what has been described in the blog entry.  While I find the airport gropings in the US inconsistent with Constitutional protections, it is not something that goes on because someone is trans-anything.  It will not surprise me to see the same be the case with the UK claims...
