A ten-year-old boy has been given the go-ahead by an Australian court to have sex change treatment.

The boy, known only as Jamie, had been dressing as a girl for the past two years, and had been allowed to use the girl's toilets at school.

They use the Dr John Money case and Charles Kane to argue against sex change procedures. I think I dropped 10 IQ points for just reading that.

Yeah whenever i hear Charles Kane, i want to poke him with sharp pointed sticks.  Just because a rich crazy person decides to do something stupid in his eccentricities doesn't invalidate it for people who have real issues, but by his logic i am must deluded since i actually enjoy living as a woman and more over, i would rather someone put a bullet in my head then go back to living as a man.  If i could of done this at 10 and my doctor OK'd it ... omg... what a nice life i would have had...

I looked and could find no statistics they use to back their claim.  How many is many?  I have only ever known one.  And she was allowed to have surgery because she was quite wealthy.  I just don't see many detransitioning.  Good for this judge!

This is typical tabloid type journalism.

There are actually only two examples cited. Charles Kane, who is probably right that he needed counciling, not surgery and Bruce/Brenda, where the little boy was subjected to the procedure without any consultation at all.

If challanged, I have little doubt the wirtiers will claim their's is an interpertation.

Well, let's see...

The article is skewed, no doubt.  The story about Money failed to mention Money only suggested the boy be raised as a girl after a botched circumcision.  The "botch" involved penile mutilation.  But this article made it sound like Money was pro-gender change and as part of his experiment persuaded the parents to raise their boy as a girl.

The Charles Kane story is pretty unique but the article made it sound it was one of many similar stories.

And who is behind this?  Hmmm..  Well, it was published in The Christian Institute newsletter.  Their motto is "Christian Intelligence In A Secular World."

The most significant concern I can envision by permitting the surgery at such a young age is the future need for additional surgeries in order to create age-appropriate vaginal depth. 

Other than that...if the parents are on board, early medical intervention should resolve MANY problems provided they can limit future media interference in their life.

it hurt to read that article..... I know had I been allowed to live as a female earlier in my life i would have been a much better person... but it does me no good to ruminate on the past... I just know now that i am living as a woman, i am a much happier person and able to handle situations more appropriately than i did before when i was a male...

It's pretty weird- I think it would have been great for me, but knowing how kids are, I'm not really sure that may be the best precedent to set.  But doing it early will avoid quite a bit of trouble, though.

  Why in the HECK is the story of Dr. Money's foul-up had to do with this story!  There are two mentally different boys involved here.  Apples to oranges.  Mr. Kane is just one individual that was put up just for this article. 
  My case, Mr. Kane is that of a 58 year old that payed his/her dues for that 58 years with my GID unchanged all of that time.  Various other things were tried to quell my GID over the years.  None worked.  Why did everything start to work, both mentally and physically when I started HRT!  This is not a delusion dagnabbit!  This is for my health!
