I'm sure you guys have your stories so please do share them :) I called my prescription in 2 weeks early due to my crappy memory I wanted to get it early and realized I couldn't afford it until Thursday this week which is my massive payday instead of my last crappy one. Anyways so I called to see what I needed to do so that they wouldn't re-shelf it and such. So the guy asks for my last name and then my first.

I don't have my name change yet so the guy is like (name)? Really? Then asks for my date of birth and so on. So he loudly goes testosterone? Okay and explains I'll have to call on Thursday for them to fill it and finishes the call. Not bad just sort of annoying. My work called the other day and although they have me down as Drew in most places my legal papers still can't say it yet so I forgot to clock in and out for a class so they called and asked to speak to legal name so I said speaking and they were like "You are (legal name)?"

Then this week I had to show my work ID to get into work which I do every day but it was someone new and they saw my ID and then before I went through the door they said "Did that say (name)? I need to see that ID again" So she stares at the picture then at me then at the name for a good few minutes and has this look like she's thinking I'm a freak.

Yeah, I'm working on saving for that name change to get it ASAP. Anyone else have stories?

lol Sorry man. I guess you could use my story about trying to get information on the vo-tech classes here and being hounded for 15 minutes about how we helpless little women just don't work the rough tough jobs and don't want to get dirty changing oil and that things like that just aren't right for a woman. *headdesk*

I remember reading that recently. Stupid woman ugh I'm sorry man. She should meet my mother. My mom knows how to change a tire, check her oil, and could leg-press more weight than most of the guys before her spinal issues. Shoot she even played football better than my dad could even though she gets her nails done and is girly.

I got my name changed legally about a year and a half ago, but before then, yeah, I've got all kinds of stories.  I've had the librarian flat-out accuse me of stealing someone else's card, all kinds of funny looks and odd comments when I tried to use a debit or credit card, and TSA agents at airports spending an insufferably long time scrutinizing my ID and glaring at me when I went through the security checkpoints.  Gotta say, I think legally changing my name has made more positive difference in my day-to-day life than any other step in my transition has so far.

This guy I knew last year saw my ID (this was before I changed my name) and he's all 'Your name's [name]!?'. Turns to the person next to him, 'can [name] ever be used for a boy?' and the guy next to says 'of course not'. The first guy looks me up and down, then walks away saying 'that's crazy'.
I do have a more cheerful story, although it's not about my name. A few years ago, before I knew I was trans I was doing some shopping and this kid comes up to me and asks why I was wearing a skirt if I was a boy (I was in my school uniform, otherwise I would not have worn a skirt). I spent 10 minutes trying to explain to him that I was a girl but he still walked away telling me that I was a boy pretending to be a girl. I guess kids are more preceptive than we give them credit for.

I got a few of those, over here you can't change your name legally until you have your uterus taken out (the law), which can only be done after 1,5 years on T (gender team protocol). So there will most likely be more to come (I'm nearly 10 months on T).

So a few months ago I had to get my blood checked, not T related, in the nearby hospital and had to get a hospital card made. So I hand over my ID. The lady looks at me quizzically and says that is your name? Yes, for now it is.  Looks at me again and fill out the forms to give me my card. I was happy she didn't inquire further. Cause I had to get a card made at another hospital a couple of months later and she kept asking if the card was for me and if I was sure it was my ID until I had to come out to her and then finally got my card.

A month or two later I have to call to know how long the waiting list is for my top surgery. So I give them my last name and birth date. After a pause the lady on the phone says: I can't find you in my computer. I realize she assumes I'm male and is looking for a male, so I say: I could be in the computer under a girls name. After a pause is your name (birth name)? Yes. Why haven't you changed it? Because I'm not allowed to yet. She says: Oh and goes on to tell me the waiting time for my case.

Andrew why don't you file for indigent status so you can get your name changed now? That's what Samantha did.
and i know that i'm never alone
and i know that my heart is my home
Every missing piece of me
I can find in a melody

Oh and to add a story, first of all, I'm only 2 months on t and my voice has changed a lot, so i never pass for my birth name on the phone. And when I use my ID (which I still had long hair in) the person always spends some time looking at it and back at me. So now I'm just like "Thats when I used to have long hair" and it seems to satisfy people even with my birth name I still pass. I went to the movies and the AMC Theater that I went to has this new rule that anyone under 18 must have a person 21 yrs or older with them after 9pm, so when i gave my ticket to the guy he asked to see my ID and as I was handing it to him I said I used to have long hair, and he's like "Oh wow you did have long hair. Here you go man" and I moved on. Its still annoying having to use it though, I can't wait to get a new one

Wish I could but I make too much money for them to allow it. :(
