Mercedes Allen

I was pleased when the Financial Services Committee overwhelmingly, in a bipartisan way, voted in favor of my amendment urging the Secretary of the Treasury to oppose any financial assistance from multilateral development institutions to countries that persecute people on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity or religious beliefs. In the discussion of the amendment I offered, I specifically mentioned the deeply troubling case of Uganda, which is now considering legislation to legally deprive people of these basic human rights.

QuoteAnd even Martin "graphic poo porn" Ssempa has called for the death penalty to be removed (probably because of the media attention that has caused) and replaced with a seven-year sentence.
Sadly, this report from Mercedes Allen demonstrates why these fasist types are so successful.

They whip up a panic. They call for the most extreme response. They they pull back, to show themselves as being reasonable, frogiving, considerate and thoughful.

Seven years is still seven years. A conviction is still a conviction. Any attention, even a remark, is utterly unacceptable. People are being persecuted for being what they are. That the matter is even being discussed is utterly intolerable.

But Mr Ssempa has carefully manipulated his position to make himself appear reasonable. And sadly, Mercedes Allen seems to have take the bait.

I apologise for repeating the same point, but we must never deal with fascists and nazis. By treating these people as extreme democrats we seriously underestmate them.
