Wow. I can only wish that I had the guts to protest back then. I still can't work up the courage to do so now! This is pretty cool.

If only. If i'd been able to not go through puberty as female, I'd be a much happier person today.

...but will society be able to follow such a path to enlightenment?  Or, after this and a few other cases, will the pendulum swing back the other way?

<sigh>

Tinker Bell,

Thank you  :)  very much for posting this article.  It's not only
good to see this kind of acceptance from doctors and parents,
but also to know that at least some doctors can be flexible
when it comes to the mental as well as physical health of
the individual.

Karen,

Good point.  :)  My feeling -- and it's just my feeling -- is that
with the growth in medical knowledge, greater visibility of
the TG community in general, increased public education
thru outreach, improvement in discrimination laws, etc.;
more and more parents are open to the reality of what
may be present and growing in their children -- and are
also emboldened to support them because of the above
mentioned changes and others.  (Whew!!!)

I foolishly could not wait for puberty (which hit me late) as I thought that it would help "cure" me of the "abnormal" thoughts about wanting to be a girl.

Of course times have changed in some parts of the world.

This story got a lot of publicity on a local talk show this morning.  Amazingly, it was well treated.  I was shocked and pleasantly surprised.
