What's the recovery? How long until work?

Hi! I got my coming in two months! :)

I was wondering from your experience what's the recovery like? How long until one can go back to work? What about pains and functionality?

They told me there is 10-14 days in the hospital and probably a week more at home but they said it can vary to much more than that and suggested I'd ask other people who been through it.

4-6 weeks is estimated but it depends on the person. I'm at 7 weeks tomorrow and I'm due o go back Monday. I'm still having some soreness so I'm going to see what my Dr says tomorrow. I have a more physical job with heavy lifting. I'd say lean more towards the 6 weeks if you have a light duty type job. If yo have to sit for long periods of time you might get sore

It's really going to depend on you.  My surgeon gave me a letter to have 6 weeks off which I was told should be more than enough time to recover enough to go back to work (I sit at a desk in front of a computer) with padding time.  I could have gone back to work after just three weeks off, but as my employer didn't assist me with paying for the surgery and short term disability was 100% of my salary, I had no incentive to go back early.  From my understanding, the standard I have observed has been 4 weeks off of work.  But it's really going to depend on how you feel after the surgery and how well you heal.

Somehow 6 weeks at home with 100% salary sounds very appealing considering the boring job I have :)

Although I am more concerned on when I will be able to travel. Was planning to have a flight to see my bf when the letter came saying it will be just 3 days after the day I planned to travel. I wonder how soon I can revive that plan.

Honestly, your biggest concern for travel is how well you are going to be able to handle sitting down on whatever seat you get (car seat, plane seat, train seat, etc) for whatever period of time you are traveling.  You would be advised to make sure you travel with your donut cushion.

It also hasn't been six happy weeks after surgery, this has been no vacation (holiday for you UK folks) healing up from such a major surgery.  The first two weeks were very grueling, but once I got home things got a lot better quicker.

What kind of sitting problems one should expect after 3 weeks? 5 weeks? What's the feeling like?

No one person heals the same.  We can't just tell you how well (or not) YOU will be following surgery.

For me it's basically sitting on an area that is swollen so it creates more pressure than normal. The more the swelling goes down the easier it has been sitting for longer periods of time.

Age will play a factor too, as well as your overall health. As we have both mentioned, mileage may vary by person

It all varies based upon the individual in question...in my case, I had surgery not long before a holiday break in a year where that pretty much got me an entire week (agency gave day before and day after xmas which was great in the years where xmas fell mid-week).  I had requested two weeks off from work (I had a desk job in an executive capacity).  I had been given guidance by Brassard and his staff to progress as I felt comfortable, and they had seen how much I be-bopped around as soon as they let me out of the recovery room (it might be safe to say that I took to the new me like a fish to water...my body knew it just was right).

As things turned out, I actually came back to work a day before the leave was up.  Had no discomfort and had very little in the way of spotting.  Nobody was aware of my reason for having been out of the office as it had been taken as vacation time for travel previously booked before coming into that section of the agency.  I do not know that it would have been quite as easy if I had a job that required lifting or anything remotely more strenuous than making decisions on whether to issue a warrant for a person's arrest or other similar document reviews).

Conversely, I have known others that did not recover in a real expeditious manner.

5 days in hospital, after 5 weeks I was able to drive around but got tired easily and needed a pillow to sit on. Sitting for long periods was uncomfortable but standing was too because of the internal pressure pressing down on the sensitive parts. I think my surgeon also said no lifting more than 5 pounds for at least 8 weeks.

Also remember depending on your surgeon you will need to dilate several times a day at first, so that may be a consideration for work as well.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I know you're excited! :)

First off congratulations on your surgery date :) I planned on 5 weeks off from work (Suporn). The time needed probably varies for everyone, depending on surgeon, age, health and so on.
