Connecticut stage favorite Varla Jean Merman (aka Jeffery Roberson) is basking in great reviews following last week's New York opening of the off-Broadway musical "Lucky Guy."

The New York Times proclaimed Merman "a force of nature" and compared the performer's comedy teamwork with Leslie Jordan to what would have happened "If Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman had stood in front of the right pair of funhouse mirrors.
