BOLSTERED by the runaway ratings success of the ABC mini-series Paper Giants, which overnight rebooted Ita Buttrose's media career, the production company Freemantle Media has completed a script and is in deep negotiations with the broadcaster to put the life and times of Australia's most famous transsexual, Carlotta, on the small screen.
''Darl, it's very early days. I think they've been waiting for me to drop off the perch,'' Carlotta, in her trademark gravelly voice, informed PS this week from her Gold Coast digs.

In 1972 Carlotta underwent gender-reassignment surgery and went on to find national fame, starring in Number 96 and dating a string of high-profile men, including Peter Allen, the Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham and the '60s pop star P.J. Proby.
