For those of you with some knowledge of my experience with clinics and doctors involving my trans health care you probably know what a horrible time I've been having. There's been a whole mess of problems varying from being called the wrong name, to being sent mail when I've asked not to, a social worker said I needed a lower dose, and being forced to take a $300 blood test (I say forced because I originally refused and a social worker pressured me into getting it while I was not in a good mental state due to fasting for almost 24 hours and traveling 2 hours to the office).

I've since "broken up" with this clinc and am going to a different one. There has been a hold on me being charged for that blood test which I took in February and today I got a call from the old doctor telling me why. It turns out the test that he needed/wanted would be my total testosterone and he tested for my free testosterone. So, in Feb. I got the wrong test (the $300 one). He called me saying that he had been speaking to the lab. He said that the lab was going to charge me the minimum price they charge insurance companies instead of the full retail price. He would then pay me the difference between the blood test I was supposed to get and the one that I actually got. From what I gather the cost of total testosterone test is supposed to be less than the free testosterone test.

All in all, I'm really pissed off. The test was meaningless to start with because the social worker made me take a fraction of the dose that my doctor wanted me on while the doctor thought I was on his dose. I'm kind of wondering if there's anything I can do.

What you are going through sounds dreadful mate  :(

Other than moving to the UK I have no idea what the best thing you can do is in your situation.

We all moan about the NHS over here and it isn't what it used to be but seeing what transfolk have to go through in other countries makes me realise just how much things are better for us over the pond.

$300 for a blood test  :o

Even when we have a bad time over here with problems with medical people giving bad advice etc., at least we are not paying through the nose for it and we have the option of insisting on seeing someone else if we are not happy. There is a LOT of waiting involved but we get there in the end if we persevere.

I wish you all the best and hope someone on here can advise you on the best way to sort this out for you.
