Has anyone had trouble with caffeine while on HRT?

Lately, I've had major difficulty waking up in the morning for work. Luckily where I work they don't mind too much, but I still think it gives a pretty bad impression and it bothers me a lot.

In the afternoon or early evening, I would be a bit tired, but then I would become alert after around 9 pm. If I tried to sleep, I would just lie there bored. Usually I'd get to sleep between 1 and 3.

I think it may have to do with caffeine. I typically drink pretty strong coffee with espresso added, but only in the morning.

I saw on Wikipedia, it said the half life of caffeine is normally about 4 or 5 hours, but things like oral contraceptives and pregnancies can make it much longer. Does HRT make my caffeine last 24 hours possibly?

Anyway, I stopped with the coffee, and the past couple days, waking up has been easy. I've been waking up on my own much earlier than normal.

Has anyone else had experiences like this?

I haven't noticed any difference honestly.  I used to drink massive amounts of CocaCola but I significantly cut my intake of it many months before surgery.  Then I had the foresight to quit altogether four weeks before surgery.  But I really didn't notice any stronger caffeine effects from before HRT and after starting HRT.

I have had no problem and my coffee intake has not changed.  I drink so much coffee I get Xmas cards from Juan Valdez and his mule Paco.

Kia Ora Amanda,

You should try "Green Tea"...Gradually ween yourself off of coffee and replace it with green tea , but don't make the green tea too strong otherwise you'll be peeing all night....

Hi

What a strange coincidence.  I dont normally drink coffee but a a cup of filter coffee last week and experienced feeling "spaced out" all afternoon.  Only been on HRT for 2 weeks but I honestly felt wired on just one cup of coffee.  I thought i was having an extreme reaction?  Obviously in our case coffee and HRT dont mix too well.

Caffeine is actually a toxin.  Coffee plants use caffeine as an insecticide.   The so-called coffee-buzz is actually caused by the body having detected a poison in the bloodstream is going all out to get rid of it.*    Caffeine causes an energy spike quickly followed by an energy crash that is why you have to keep reaching for caffeinated drinks and food like chocolate all day.   However, this behaviour just causes your energy to spike and crash constantly which exhausts the body's defences and strains the nervous system and kidneys.
My father sold tea and coffee and everywhere he went he was offered a cup of coffee.   One day when he went into hospital for a very minor procedure they actually had to cancel this procedure for a couple of days because he was having serious caffeine withdrawal symptoms

* Your body says when it detects caffeine in the body: 'Battle stations everyone!   Toxin detected in the bloodstream.  This is NOT a drill!!'
