I'm about to send this off to the professor of my summer class, but first I'd appreciate opinions.  Is there anything I should add/omit?

Hello Dr. [his name],

I am writing to inform you that although the roster for your cell and molecular biology course [course number] has me listed as [birth name] I prefer the name Lee and will be turning in assignments as such.  This change is because I am in the process of transitioning from female to male.  Because of this, I would also appreciate being referred to with male pronouns as well as by my preferred name.  Thank you for your help, and please let me know if there is any issue with this.

See you tomorrow,
Lee [last name]

That really does sound good!  Can't see how they can argue with that.

It's not the... er... British guy, is it?  Yes, I know his name but not bringing it up here.  His reputation on campus is legendary, and I'd not want to broach this subject with him in a million years.  If it's him, I wish you all the luck in the world.

And it's off.  I'm really looking forward to turning in my first assignment under my name.  :)

Edit:  He emailed back and was very supportive.   :)

Excellent news.

I thought your letter was entirely appropriate as well. To the point, and brief.

Really pleased for you Lee.

Lee, looks good to me, lets us know how it goes when you get to class and turn in an assignment.

And in goes the first test under the right name.
I was grinning like an idiot through the whole thing.  Of course, it didn't hurt that I aced it.  ;)
