AHA! Ok I just figured out what they were. I saw I had some but didn't know from who or why or if they were even good things.
Thanks ya all. You are really sweet. If I have seemed rude for not acknowledging them it is only cuz I didn't know what they were.

You get a smite for not acknowledging them! Just kidding. I haven't smote anybody yet, that would take a lot for me to do. But I really like that word: smite.  And smote. That's one's fun too.

Anyway, I don't think any replies are necessary (I'm actually not quite sure what the etiquette for that is, either) because it would be like patting someone on the shoulder for patting you on the shoulder. Does that make any sense?

You could always send the person a PM if you noticed they applauded you, but it's not necessary.  Don't feel shy about using the applaud button, but make sure it's for a good reason such as a post you found particularly helpful or thoughtful.  Smite is almost never used because it can engender animosity.  I have only used it in extreme instances where somebody is clearly breaking some rules and refuses to correct their behavior.  Usually those people end up getting banned anyways.

a couple of other boards I am on have a similar system so I am familiar with it but the terms, location and appearance here is so different.
Anyhow, I posted this since I just discovered these applauds and who they were from. Usually I would reply via PM and say thanks.
