Transgender is the T in the alphabet soup, usually referring to anyone who does not feel they fit into the traditional categories of male and female. Transsexuals, a part of that transgender population, are individuals who physically change their sex through hormones and surgeries.

The silence and ignorance is perhaps most pronounced in issues of health care. It is the duty of health care professionals and institutions to provide the tools and resources necessary for adequate health to all persons. However, LGBT individuals (and especially transsexuals) require slightly different resources and tools.

Pat Tetreault is the Sexuality Education Coordinator for the UNL Health Center and the Assistant Director for GLBT Programming and Services. Tetreault and Ryan Sallans, a transsexual activist have presented on sexual orientation and gender identity at all-staff meetings at the Health Center.
