Protesters rally against closure of largest gender-affirming care center for kids in the US

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/protesters-rally-against-closure-of-largest-gender-affirming-care-center-for-kids-in-the-us/ar-AA1Iesk8?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=3aea54121eb6496da17a13d8acf2e697&ei=73

Story by ANNA FURMAN (8 July 2025)

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Growing up, Sage Sol Pitchenik wanted to hide.

When therapy didn't help, Pitchenik, who uses the pronoun they, started going to the Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, the country's biggest public provider of gender-affirming care for children and teens. It changed their life.

But in response to the Trump administration's threat to cut federal funds to places that offer gender-affirming care to minors, the center will be closing its doors July 22. Pitchenik has been among the scores of protesters who have demonstrated regularly outside the hospital to keep it open.

"Trans kids are done being quiet. Trans kids are done being polite, and trans kids are done begging for the bare minimum, begging for the chance to grow up, to have a future, to be loved by others when sometimes we can't even love ourselves," Pitchenik said, prompting cheers from dozens of protesters during a recent demonstration.

In operation for three decades, the facility is among the longest-running trans youth centers in the country and has served thousands of young people on public insurance.

Patients who haven't gone through puberty yet receive counseling, which continues throughout the care process. For some patients, the next step is puberty blockers; for others, it's also hormone replacement therapy. Surgeries are rarely offered to minors.

Trump administration sues California over transgender athlete policy

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-administration-sues-california-over-transgender-athlete-policy/ar-AA1IhNXD?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=3aea54121eb6496da17a13d8acf2e697&ei=73

Story by Eric He (9 July 2025)

The Trump administration sued California's Department of Education on Wednesday over the state's policy allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls' sports, repeating a threat to withhold billions of dollars in school funding.

The lawsuit, filed in the Central District of California, alleges that California's transgender athlete law violates Title IX, the federal civil rights law that bans sex-based discrimination. It cites Gov. Gavin Newsom's comment earlier this year that it was "deeply unfair" for transgender athletes to compete in girls sports.

A spokesperson for Newsom said that both the state's Department of Education and CIF are independent from his administration and are following state law. Newsom is not named as a party in the suit.

"No court has adopted the interpretation of Title IX that is being advanced by the federal government, and neither the Governor, nor they, get to wave a magic wand and override it –– unlike Donald Trump, California follows the law," spokesperson Izzy Gardon said in a statement.

The lawsuit is the latest escalation in a clash between California and the Trump administration over transgender athletes. The state has so far rebuffed federal efforts to restrict transgender athletes' participation in sports, also arguing last month that local school districts had already certified that their programs and services comply with federal law.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I will be looking into those options.

As for more details, I started ny transition 2015 when I was 15 years old and have been taking hormone replacement therapy since 2018. In 2021 I had FFS and decided to do the hip implants right after because I was insecure about the shape of my body. I had initially looked into methods using fat (or a combination of implants and fat) but my surgeon said that there was no fat to work with and we could go ahead with just implants. I should have looked further into how the result would actually look, because as I said I am unhappy with it. One side is slightly lower than the other but the main problem is just the fact that there is very clearly an implant. It's difficult to explain but it basically just looks like a bump on the hip rather than an actual hip, and you can see the contours of the implant around the whole thing.

In hindsight I don't think using implants (at least alone) is ever going to look good. After getting my SRS at the beginning of the year I feel like I finally need to get it together with this last problem that has been bothering me so I can be happy with myself. I think the solution would be, considering my previous statement, to remove the implants and hopefully perform a fat transfer to the area. I've been trying, and am currently trying more than ever, to gain as much weight as I can so that such an option could be viable and during the summer I'm hoping to talk to surgeons regarding my situation and the options I have. But any other ideas for what I could do would be appreciated! My goal is just to have a body that looks like a normal human but hopefully to not completely go back to the narrow hips I had before so that everything was in vain, and also considering that the skin in the area probably would be loose and look weird anyway if I just remove the implants.

Legal Matters / Re: Gender Marker Change Lette...
Last post by NancyDrew1930 - Today at 12:27:20 PM
So I just got my driver's license and my Ontario Health Card changed from M to F today!!!!  (Well, the Ontario health card doesn't have the sex designation on the card, but I got it changed in Ontario's computer system so if I go to the hospital or that, I'll pop up as female on their systems and paperwork---I guess I might get a call from Ontario's Breast Screening Program since I think that automatically books an appointment for you once you reach 40, I'm not too sure.)  Funny thing was that getting my health card changed was easy, getting my driver's license changed proved to be somewhat of a hassle, even though they were using the exact same documentation as I used for my health card.  The problem came from their end, because the Ontario website lists what can used for documentation for changing the sex marker on your license is either a birth certificate or (if you were born outside of Ontario or can not get an updated birth certificate) a letter from both you and a doctor declaring that you are whatever sex you identify as.  It turns out that while the website had been update June 30, 2023, the office I went to, the internal paperwork/guidelines from the higher leves only talked about the birth certificate method.  So the agent was trying to figure out what to follow.  And I can't blame them when the government hasn't managed to get their internal stuff to match with their external website stuff!

Otherwise I am now legally and medically female.

Beauty / Re: Do you enjoy wearing ponyt...

I haven't worn any pigtails or braids yet, however I do wear ponytails just about everyday with big poofy satin scrunchies, and I have them up at the top of my head for that feminine look.  I've had a few people tell me that with the poofy satin scrunchies they make me look like a teenager or pre-teen girl.

The folks who designed the 'Colorful Colorado' signs have a sense of irony. Although the state is colorful, the signs definitely are not.

It can get hot in Colorado, but the low humidity really helps. Stock up on moisturizer.

No, I'd rather learn the greens by playing them.  There are lots of elevation changes and trees on the 18 hole course so just getting on the greens may be difficult.  It is easier said than done but ideally I'd like to put my ball on the flat sections of the fairway, not the rough or tilted parts of the fairway.
