Political and Legal News / Stormy days in France
Last post by Stéphanie.FR - Today at 06:06:10 PM
I don't know if it's the right place to do so, but here's some news from France for informative purposes.

In April, there was a serious legislative attack on trans rights, coming from the party "Les Républicains". This right wing Conservative party is pushing for a new law in "le Sénat" (our second legislative chamber), that is intending to ban transition for minors, forbidding the use of puberty blockers, and to punish healthcare workers who treat trans patients under 18yo by prison sentence (up to two years). The far right parties are also embracing the issue.

At the same time, two anti-trans activists women have produced a book, "Transmania" to "put a stop to the trans Ideology" (sic)... This book was and still is promoted by all the conservative media (newspaper, radio, TV) (like the movie "what is a woman?" or the book "Irreversible damage" were in the US). The book is violent, presenting trans people as sick perverts, and using a language that completely dehumanizes trans people.

Under those attacks, the trans community is fighting back. A letter to impulse a mobilization on the 5th of may was published in the magazine "Politis". It has gathered more than 800 signatures in a few day, and now it's over 1900 public figures, activists, groups and organisations that call to mobilize against anti-trans attacks.

Almost fifty cities (one in Corsica, one in La Réunion, and two in Belgium are going to march and hold assemblies this week-end). All the left organisations joined the call to action. The biggest France's union confederation (CGT) has called workers to mobilise this week-end for trans right. A mobilisation of this size for Trans rights is a first in France.

So this Sunday, I will march in Paris in support.

Quote from: Scarlett Rose on Today at 01:47:44 PMI stay away from RP areas as I can never tell what's real and what isn't when people tell me about themselves.

I enjoy the RP but you must assume that everything said is part of the act. But this guy told me things outside of RP when we were playing other non-RP games, or waiting for a team to form before our next battle. But you are correct in that people in those situations cannot be trusted.

Allie, that is fascinating!
