During my time in Da Ville, one of the things I discovered about my roomie Dawn was that she is a huge anime fan.

She got me hooked on one I adore and still spend hours watching called You're Under Arrest, which has a trans cop character by the name of Sgt. Aoi Futaba in it.

Dawn sent me a link a few days ago to another anime from Japanese television called Hourou Musuko or Wandering Son that is creating a buzz among the anime fans in transworld because of the trans theme coursing through it.

transsexuals pop up quite abit more in Japanese media in quite varied roles and presentations and arn't played for simple laughs usually. (although that dosen't mean the author did his research either)

I actually watched this show and it was very very interesting. The main characters are pre-adolescents and the show focuses on them before puberty, starting puberty and wondering about their bodies and relationships, family and friends. It was really heartwarming and sweet at times, and really made an effect on me even though its such a short anime.

There were times when the way the characters were treated made my emotions well up, but I still think its worth it. In the end, of course, not every accepted the characters who decided that they might want to transition one day, but there was still a lot of support from friends and family. There were a few times where the characters were a bit annoying to me but then again they are pre-teens, and I remember being like it too.

You can watch this anime on crunchy-roll if anyone is interested.
