Title: Relation pain from laser and amount of hair?

I apologize for perhaps a strange question that occurred to me this morning.
I have decided after putting it off for a long time to finish removing / clean up some facial hair I have. I had electrolysis from 1993-1995 (three full years) and stopped when I got a job. Almost finished, but not quite and never had sufficient motivation to finish it. I didn't want to have to grow it out for several days while working a full time job.
Anyway. I saw a laser hair removal person a few weeks ago (licensed with a national organization, etc. Gives a very professional impression). She uses a lightsheer and recommended I wait until fall because there is too much sunlight now. Risk of adverse affects in combination with the laser, I gather.
Anyway, a long introduction for this question: Is there a relation between the pain of the laser and the amount of (dark) hair targeted? In other words, will it hurt more in a spot with a lot of dark facial hair and less where there is less facial hair? Or is there no such relation?

more dense generally = more discomfort with laser (because there's more follicles heated up in a given area).
chin and upper lip tend to hurt because of that.

Totally,
Upper lip kills
The more follicles per cm the more pain.
Just do it, it isn't that bad
Hugs

Oh yes, I know the upper lip hurts :) After three years of electrolysis there isn't much left on my upper lip, but enough that I (finally) have decided to clean it all up. So I was kind of hoping that less hair meant less pain. I have no doubt it's gonna hurt, but I have no hesitation in doing it. I figure if I can take the electrolysis, I can take the laser. What might also hurt significantly, for me, is the right side of my neck. That was always a very painful spot for some reason (the left wasn't nearly as bad), so quite a bit needs to be done there yet. Ouch.

If you have a real close shave, the pain is a bit less. More pigment=more heat=more pain. :icon_flamed:
