Title: Laser: How fast does the hair regrow if treatments fail?

Some people get laser and the hair's gone for good; others can tell very quickly that it's not working. A few, though, report that their laser treatment left them hairfree only temporarily. After a few months or years, most of it grew back.
My question is for the last group. If it happened to you, how and how fast did it grow back? Did it grow back over a period of days, weeks, months? Did it all reappear at once; or did it mimic your (first) puberty, coming in sparsely and growing more dense over time?
I ask because I'm looking into laser myself. Once I start seeing what I look like without facial hair, I don't think I'll go back without a fight. If I needed to "resort" to electrolysis, would I need to sink lots of money and time up front in marathon sessions to keep the hair away? Or should I expect to relax for a bunch of mini sessions while the electrolysist plays a leisurely game of Whack-a-Mole (or maybe Space Invaders? :P ) clearing my face?
Point of clarity: I know laser doesn't do 100% removal. I'm just talking about keeping the gains I might make from laser.

From what I understood, usually, laser burns everything, so it's like "the best shave you could ever get", then everything grows back normally. After a few weeks,
part of the hairs will fall off "permanently". This will keep on, session per session, until all "laser-able" hairs have been killed off.
As for electrolysis, yes, it costs a lot and takes forever. Tens and hundreds of hours. Usually, people actually wishing for their hair to go away go there a few hours
at a time, one to three times a week.
