Title: Abbreviations
Post by: stephanie_craxford on September 15, 2005, 12:17:33 PM
Aha...

Kimberly pointed out to Shelley that BTW is short for "by the way"

So what else do we have out there:  Not those used in chat rooms... e.g. brb = be right back

I'll start:

LOL = Laughing out loud
ROTFLMAO = Rolling on the floor, laughing my a** off

Have fun,

Steph

Here's two of differing origins, one is actually an acronym:

This refers to something we all use. FRED:   F....ing Ridiculus Electronic Device.
And this one from my military days.  FUBAR  F....ed Up Beyond All Recognition

Definetely won't find those in any chat rooms.

other words I've used

Woot-  its an abreviation of "Wow, Loot!"   but it basically means "Yay!"

Oh and we use FUBAR regularly... but maybe its a gamer thing... I also use the word cluster->-bleeped-<-  ;)

Now I feel old all of these look obvious when written out but do you reckon I could figure them out myself?

My favourite is ROTFLMAO

We came up with this one today from our business.

GID = Grant Identity Dysphoria : They have a fifty dollar mentality but only 1 dollar in the wallet.  ;D
