Title: “Kia Ora!” Greetings one and all…
Post by: Anatta on July 28, 2011, 11:09:35 PM

Kia Ora all,

::) Some members have asked me what is meant when I use the word "Kia Ora" at the beginning of my post and "Metta" at the end ...Sage just recently asked this in another post so I just thought it would be a good idea [for these interested that is] to go the whole hog and explain ...So for all those who "are" interested...

Kia Ora is a Maori word which means "Hi" you can get more information here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_ora (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_ora)

Metta is a Pali word which means "Loving Kindness"  you can get more information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mett%C4%81 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mett%C4%81)

::) On a personal level when I use these words they remind me to be "mindful" of the fact that I'm actually conversing with another human being with feelings[and not just words on a computer screen -a machine] and so this[often faceless] person should be treated with the respect I would show them in person...

::) Now I don't expect others to change the way they interact with others on the forum[whatever turns one on]...But I find just by beginning and ending with a "personal" touch keeps me focused and always "mindful"...

::) Just out of interest what local greetings are used in your "neck of the woods" and do any of you use words that are indigenous to the area [words belonging to the local people of the land so to speak]?

Metta Zenda [Zenda BTW is just my forum name]
