Title: Who else loves long natural fingernails???
Post by: Francis Ann Burgett on July 31, 2011, 10:14:26 PM

I love all normal parts of being a woman, shaving my legs, panties, bras, makeup, shaping eyebrows, etc..... However I really feel my best when my nails are long & near perfect. I've never had false nails & never plan to, they look so course.
Just wondering girl friends, a little fun topic from all the other serious topics.
Mine are long, perfect & bright red. I love a strong red color & always have. It goes well with my completion & dark hair.

I would love to have long nails, but I can't because of my new profession. I don't wish to claw someone's beloved puppy or kitten. So I keep them short and very nude colors if any color at all.

i have longer fingernails as well, but I always make sure they are not too long. Ive seen some girls (cisgendered and trans) who have fingernails that are so long, they begin to curl. Now, that to me, is kinda creepy lol.
I've had em short too. Short or long, I feel fine with them. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. :)

Mine start curling around about 1/4" so natural long nails are totally out of the question. :( Not to mention my nails break so easily. They break when I zip up my shorts, tie my shoes, clean the bathroom, if it's windy outside, whenever a bird craps in Paris, you name it.

Zoe, That is funny, oh well, no big deal girl friend.
Guess I'm lucky, mine grow nicely, I try & keep them maybe 1/2 inch long.

That's probably your Spiro that is the culprit.
I used a nail strengthener every other day or mine would turn to dust! Have u tried the nail strengthener? (im sure you have but i gotta ask lol).

half an inch from the tip of the finger or half an inch from the bottom nail bed? I'm guessing nailbed cus if it's a half an inch from the tip of the fingers, those are called Raven Claws :P

Annah, 1/2 inch from bottom nail bed, maybe 1/4 out from tip of fingers. They just grow naturally, although I use hard clear polish 24-7 if not painted. I've always had long nails since early in life, after a while they seem normal, you just handle things differently so as not to break a nail. I need so many other feminine attributes but guess least glad for nice nails.
Just use strengthen type polish it will help a lot.

I used to have strong nails and grew them longish for some time. Then they started to peal off in thin layers and break also.
It is still happening and it might be the Spiro (or E?). The beautician says it's the hormones I take, what ever that means.
I been offer nail-strengthener but it also applies like varnish and I suppose will chip and peal off also?
First I thought because I had varnished nails 24/7 for month and month. So I stopped varnishing but they still delaminate.

I think your beautician is right, before I started testosterone my nails used to peal a lot too, they stopped pealing once I started T and they got stronger. You could take a vitamin called biotin, I just started using it for hair growth, and my nails are stronger and grow super fast

I cut them when they are longer than 1/2" (from tip of finger) because it is discomfort to write at keyboard
But newer cut them to be shorter than fingers, must left at least 1/8" white part of nail, I have them too short

I keep my about this length all the time and no one pays much attention to them in the family or stranger that I am aware of. Don't pay any attention to my head, tried to get it out of the way LOL. Just wished I had some polish on them right now.

Long nails aren't important so much as we both had nails that would not grow well and peeled. Elijah had a solution and I was agreeing with that. My problem now is having to cut them so often.

What nail strengthener? I've never tried anything like that but would love to! :)
I'm not on spiro though... it didn't work for me at all. My nails aren't any different now than before HRT though. They begin curling when there's barely any white showing at the end and break far too easily.

you can get it from any store that sells nail polish. It comes in a nail polish container and looks like nail polish but its a clear coat. When you apply it, it hardens around the nail to protect it from accidents. Also, there is minerals in the polish that strengthens your nail from within while it also hardens the nail.

My nails are one of the very few female traits I've been able to cling to while belonging to such a masculine natal form. My nails are luckily pretty rock hard and I refuse to cut them until they just break off and I have to even them out again. I just absolutely love how they feel and they're such an important trademark for me.
Sadly, I feel the exact same way about my natural hair (which I'm going bald rapidly) and my previously great skin tone (now filled with acne and rosacea), and my previously androgynous craniofacial state (which is now showing severe signs of Acrogemagly) and it's killing me on the inside. My nails are one thing, but I really want what's neck up!
Quite literally, I think we all agree that we love to show off female traits to the world, that we feel more empowered with female traits, and ugh, about the only thing I'm proud of on my entire body is my hands. I really stare at my hands when I'm feeling repulsed by everything else, they sort of make me imagine for a moment that I'm truly prettier that I am. But eh, everything above the neck is just so haggard as of late (going through drastic adult puberty with NO hormone therapy resources) and it's like watching a somewhat-used-to-be-able-to-pass-as-a-girl turn into a haggard old man. If I lost my nails and suddenly they turned into squishy nasty old things that I have to cut off like every boy does, I believe I'd just die on the spot!
I've pretty much had every physical representation of my soul torn away from me by male puberty (which in itself is actually an imbalance and lethal disease), and it's like Voldemort from Harry Potter becoming horrendously ugly after splitting his soul into seven objects.

I find it's hard to use my phone with long nails. I can't touch the touchscreen! Bejeweled is 100% my source of patience when waiting for people and other slow things, so that problem is kind of a big deal. Also, it's impossible to keep my nails perfect since they break every time I look at them funny.
In a perfect world without the above problems, I like them a little long-ish. 1/8" is plenty long for me I think. I don't hate it when I have them cropped though.

I let mine grow for a while when first transitioning, as I found it stopped me from picking them for some reason.
Now though I prefer to keep them short like all the other lesbians, they don't break as much either when short. I do paint them though, and don't always wear sensible shoes either.

OK, Axélle being a good girl (as usual?) and bought some Biotin to see if that will improve my flaking, chipping finger nails.
I LOVE THEM QUITE LONG (TALLONS) AND MOSTLY BLOOD RED, also dove egg blue, pale pink, Coral red, and such! Same as my toe nails. Chrrrr. :-)
Alas with the flaking and chipping I had to give varnishing (and Gel) a break.
Also dropped fro 2x E2/day to 1x E2/day, and feeling actually very boyant! It may just give my nails some more boost also. P L E A S E pretty please!

Toenails? I love painting them! The more colourful the better.
I can understand an article I read a while ago which pointed out that women will often keep their fingernail colour conservative, but go to town on their toenails as an expression of their wild side.

As a kid I aways wanted long finger nails and tried to grow them but they always broke off.
I have weak nails and I was a hyper kid always in mischief.
Yea but growing up I noticed that the nails that I envied so much were all fake anyways. -__-
I don't know why but I think of weed when it comes to long nails. I guess that is because my brother keeps his thumb and pinky nail long so that when he smokes a joint/blunt it doesn't burn his hand. -__-

LOL...there was a time in the 80's where the long pinky nail was also referred to as a coke nail...of course, powder was FAR more popular in that era (and yes, the rumors about attorneys and coke tend to be accurate).

because it was a tangential attempt at humorous historical reference for some of us women who lived through the era...
But since you want to stay strictly on topic...put me in the category of people who tend NOT to like long nails, either on myself OR on my partners of romantic interest. Let's just say that lesbian sex becomes quite uncomfortable when one partner has long nails...

That's the truth! I can't grow my nails long and my fingers are nowhere near stubby. In fact, I've got bigger hands than anyone I've met who doesn't play basketball either in college or professionally. From wrist to tip of middle finger is 10" and I have a 15-key reach on a full-size piano. ;D

I would love to have longer nails too. Unfortunately in my work they keep breaking and/or chipping.

That's me in a nutshell. I usually just put sparkly or opalescent clear-ish polish on my fingernails. My toes will be whatever I feel like, bright magenta at the moment :).
Jen, I hope you are having fun & doing OK young girl friend.
I'm trying some coral shades kinda bright & some pink shades. I've been stuck with reds so long I forgot about other softer shades. It feels calmer with brighter colors.

Good luck to all girl friends that like nice long nails. I tried some pink & corral shades however back to reds, guess it's just my color. I always seem return to reds. Please enjoy your own colors & have fun. It's just nice for us girls to have pretty hands & nice natural nails.

Annah, Thank you for your posts. It's no big deal at all on long or short nails. I loved to see your post on breast size, it must feel great to grow natural nice breasts. You seem such a beautiful young woman. I'm excited on breasts, my mother was a nice C or D cup & I want to improve naturally as much as possible.

I've always had oval shaped nails but a few days ago I filed to a square shape. At first I did not like it however now it looks more modern. Also I do not want to break a nail, this shape looks stronger, letting them grow long.
Just girl talk, doubt many other girl friends re shaping their nails.

I tried the square thing too, but it was impossible since my nails start curling inward when there's barely any white visible. Square doesn't work when you can't even grow your fingernails to the tips of your fingers. This reminds me I need to try some of that nail strengthener!

Sure, long nails can be nice but they...er...get in the way of certain activities.

One thing I've noticed is that about a year ago, when my face was much, much less androgenic (had more female hormones running through my body, somehow and gladly), my nails were more brittle and broke easily. Now, however, that my body is going through second male puberty (with extreme effects that are devastating me), the only positive is that my nails are now hard as a rock. Sadly, I'll have to wear fake ones anyway because mine don't ever grow into a particularly pleasing shape, they sort of flare out as they get longer.

I actually prefer acrylic, french tips with a gel topcoat. i've tried going the natural way but they break too easy
