A man who kicked in a door at a Berkeley gay and lesbian community center and sent four recent e-mails threatening to kill youths and staff members at the center is being held in a psychiatric facility, authorities said Tuesday.
The man, whose name and age were not released, was detained by Concord police Saturday night after he showed up at the Rainbow Community Center, a gay and lesbian center in Concord, inquiring about a suicide hot line.
Berkeley police spokesman Ed Galvan said the man appears to be the same person who kicked in the glass on the Pacific Center's front door Feb. 3.
