For anyone not following the story: Tiger Woods and Stevie Williams were a golfer-caddy duo for 11 years.  Each top-ranked in their given profession.  Even though Williams was upset at Tiger for Tiger's wandering ways, Williams stuck by Tiger like a faithful dog, doing his best to keep the media and disenchanted fans at bay.  When Tiger was recovering from knee surgery, Williams sat around, basically jobless.  He was still employed, but there was no work for him.

Williams' fellow Aussie friend, Adam Scott, called and asked Williams to caddy for him while Tiger was recovering.  From what I have read, Williams discussed this with Tiger prior to accepting Scott's offer.  Tiger fired Williams only saying it was time to move on.  Tiger ended up hiring a friend, who has caddied in only three PGA events.  Tiger took a lot of heat for the firing.  Williams admitted he was both shocked and hurt.

Last week, with Williams on his bag, Adam Scott blew away the field in a World Golf Championship event.  Immediately after the win, Scott was interviewed.  Then Williams was interviewed.  Caddies rarely are approached by the media for comments.  Williams said it was the most satisfying win in his 33 years as a caddy.

Then came the media storm.  Williams is a whiner.  He has no right to take credit for a win.  He's just a bag carrier and needs to shut up. 

So who is the hero and who is the villain?  Or they both cut from the same cloth?

Tiger is a villain in my book and Stevie is alright. I think a caddie can make a difference in calming the player down and helping them pick the right club. I think he helped keep Tiger focused and Tiger will have a tough time without him, even though he will never admit it. Can't see Tiger being nearly as dominant as he was.

Yeah, I agree.  Steve is a caddy and he wasn't working while Tiger was injured.  What's so bad about letting him caddy for someone else while you're recuperating?  Tiger apparently had a problem with that.  If he thought Steve, the guy who had no problem going after a annoying fan, was going to sit back and be silent, he didn't know the caddy who helped him all those years very well.

I was happy to see Williams get some press time.  A good caddy can elevate your game and make the difference between winning and coming in 5th.  So many people think they are just dopes who just carry a bag.  Maybe the caddies will get some of the limelight after this.

As for Tiger, he seems to bull headed to get he's human.  He's getting older.  He has to change his swing or he'll injure that knee again.  And he has to stop thinking he's god. 

I think today's results for Tiger are probably a bit off for even him but I can see other missed cuts in his future. He needs a caddy not a boyhood friend on the bag. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I used to check how he was doing on the leader board while I worked hoping he was kicking butt now I check to see how horrible he is doing. To top it all off he just lost Tag Heuer.

He's got it in him to pull off quite a few more amazing wins.  However he ain't ever going to be Tiger Woods again either.  The competition he now has grew up playing against him (in a lot of ways).  His awesome playing raised the bar and now there are a lot of people who play as well as Tiger Woods used to.

It is always shocking and sad when someone starts seeing other people and then comes the imminent break up  :icon_no:  And they seemed like such a happy couple

I was shocked just as much as anybody when Tiger just through all those good times away just because Stevie started carrying someone else's bag...
But I guess Tiger wasn't going to put up with any two timin' stuff out of Stevie, even if it was just a fling

Judging from Tiger's poor performance and shaggy appearance on the green today, I believe he is beginning to feel the remorse of his actions

I'm pretty sure Steve did not have the financial backup that Tiger has. He needed to work, he asked, by all accounts, and it was reportedly Okayed. It seems a bit sad to finish a relationship in such a way. But maybe Tiger is just into screwing people and not relationships? ::)

I agree with Tekla, the opposition have grown up. Also as we know golf is a mental game and Tiger has distracted himself a lot.

At the PGA Championship, which started Thursday Tiger shot a +7 on the first round, 14 strokes behind the leader.  Day two he didn't do much better with a three over par round.  Tiger went home, Stevie is still in it with Adam Scott. 

From the coverage I saw, the talk of the split has pretty much ended but they did do a recent history on Tiger starting with how he was doing in 2008 and then pinpointed his failure to win a major, his personal problems, his split with Williams and his poor showing this weekend. 

Stevie seems to be doing better if for no other reason than he's moved on and is on the bag of an up and coming player.  When Tiger showed up at the press conference I told Julie he would be the only player shooting +10 interviewed.

He's a good example of how true the old saying is ... Never meet your heros

Met them?  Try working with them.  Luckily they mostly seem to have a paid adult with them.

Tiger will be back. Yes, he hurt himself with all his shenanigans. He definitely has another good run in him. One thing to remember: Tiger made a lot of money for EVERYBODY! The casual fan was drawn to golf because of Tiger. I just hope Tiger becomes a better person in the process.

The only person who is preventing Tiger from becoming the greatest golfer of all time is Tiger.  He has to admit he's human.  He has to humble himself.  He has to stop thinking he's the Tiger of 2000.

Personally I could care less about all these multimillion dollar sports figures.  I certainly will not feel sorry for someone who can spend multi-millions for a house.

Government should step in and limit how much these idiots can be paid, lower the ticket prices so the general public can actually afford to go to sports events.

I'm sure Tiger knows that he's not the same player that he was in 2000. He's making those adjustments now. Once he refines them, he'll play better golf.                                                                                                                        Gennee

He can get better, and like I said he's got at least a few more wins in him, but he's never going to be the number one golfer in the world again, the competition has become much better.

The golfer isn't the only sports star making the Miami New Times Short Order blog list of "Top Ten Cheapest Celebrity Tippers."
