A gay man has married a transgender woman in Cuba - in what has been hailed as a 'significant step forward' for gay rights in the communist Caribbean country.

Ignacio Estrada, 31, and Wendy Iriepa, 37, tied the knot in a simple civil ceremony on the same day as Fidel Castro's 85th birthday - in what they called a 'gift' to the former leader.

They then draped themselves in the rainbow flag of gay pride to ride through the streets of Havana.

If he's gay, why did he marry a woman?

Regardless of his sexual orientation, they apparently fell in love. I wish them happiness!

Funny, I was at mom's house last night and my stepdad read about this in the paper.  He turned to me and asked me the very same question.

Could it be for the publicity?

As for the pictures, yeah, she looks amazing.  If you do the math, she was about 33 when she had GRS.  Anyone know how long she was on HRT before that?  Just proof that 30 somethings can transition well...

I ask meself the same question Julie Marie, but you got there before me, and yes I do always cry at weddings, she looks absolutely amazing, her dress is gorgeous, brings back beautiful memories of my own wedding, and yes my Fiancé wasn't gay, but straight, when he married me, he married a WOMAN!!

On the other side, why would she marry a gay man?

I don't date gay men because I wouldn't be any better off with them than with straight women. I'm sorry, I want GRS, and they would have a problem with that.

I socialize with a group of gay men, which if anything soldified my desire to transition.  I get nothing from it emotionally.  I love (straight) men, I get tons emotionally from my relationships with them.  I find myself emotionally void(?) with gay men, actually I even find many of them annoying.

As I said, I think it was strictly for the publicity.  If they don't quietly get divorced, I'd expect they'll both have their boyfriends, etc.

"Gay man" and it was a "same sex marriage" because even when the bride IS a woman they view them as two guys getting married and winning over the no gay marriage ban.

You have to understand its even more oppressed down there. And if you deviate of the male standards you are gay, simple as that.
