Hello and welcome, Kimberly!
I've only been here for a few months, but I can tell you this forum is full of very helpful and caring people. So, no question is ever an awful question.
As for starting down this road, the first step would certainly to be to talk to a therapist. https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/board,52.0.html (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/board,52.0.html) is the link for therapist advice. Also, just doing a search on google may come up with gender therapists in your area. Also, I'd read up on the WPATH SoC (http://www.wpath.org/publications_standards.cfm (http://www.wpath.org/publications_standards.cfm)).
Links galore I know! But, this is a very serious venture, and it's definitely good to research what you're getting yourself into first. :)

Hi Kimberly.
Welcome to the forums. I hope you have a good time here.
My first suggestion to you is to seek out a psychologist or gender specific counselor who can help you on this journey.
I wish you luck!

Hey Kimberly!!
You should better see a gender practitioner... that would clear things up.
But don't transition unless you are truly female in ur brain...
*kisses*

Hello Kimberly,
Slow down hon.
First you need to get some consoling from a gender psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist will help you find out if you are a girl in guy's skin.
Or where you fall in the gender spectrum.
This takes time.
But by all means check out Susan's there is allot of information here.
And experiment too. For starters you could try some feminine clothing.
How does it make you feel? Does it turn you on? Make you happy?
Feel weird? Does nothing for you?
It took me a couple of years to figure it all out.
Welcome to Susan's Kimberly.

Hey Kim,
One of the first things I did was join the local gender centre for counselling, then they can refer you to psychiatrist and such.It feel fantastic to be able to truly speak your mind.
I found reading personal stories a great help for me to "normalise" my situation. I always felt like a joke saying I was "woman in a man's body" or just felt like "Freak of the Week" dressed up. Yet when you read other's stories you find you are not alone.
Love your way,
Jenny
