Title: Hello everyone
Post by: Nathan90 on August 27, 2011, 03:41:35 PM
Hi there everybody!

I suppose a little intro is at it's place, I've known the board for a little while now and I felt it was time to register.

My chosen name is Nathan and I'm a 21 year old pre-everything ftm. I'm from the Netherlands and a student cabinet maker (planning to build a stringed instrument for my final project)
My boyfriend, which started out as my girlfriend, introduced me to the possibility of hormones and the reality behind being transgender (I never knew..) So yea, we ended up coming out to eachother and are now using eachothers new names (whenever we're together) and use the guy's restroom whenever we're out (cause it feels so much more comfortable than the ladies). We both have multiple binders and just got our first packers in the mail (about a week or two ago). I love it and can't stop wearing it, he hasn't really used it yet but is planning to when school starts again.

Sad thing is that I don't want to come out at school, I just can't. I suppose I'm brave/stupid enough to do it, I just don't want to be the brave one right now and face the questions and rumours from everybody. So in about a weeks time I will have to switch to a bra (at least for the first few weeks, just so the new classmates don't have to ask..), stop wearing my packer and have to time it right and bite my lip everytime I need to take a piss. Yes, school has gotten rather stressful the past 1,5 years. (and I've only just had the first two)

In a few months I will contact the genderteam and after a screening I will be put on the waiting list. That will most likely take another year before I will have my first real appointment. After another 5 to 6 months, if all goes well, I will be cleared for the real life test and get my T. So if all goes as planned (which it never does but what the heck), I will be able to start T when I'm done with school! (got another two years to go)

Ehm.. That's sort of it I guess. We came out to our closest friends a few weeks ago. They were more than fine (which we knew in advance) and immediately started joking that we now have more guys than girls in the group. And I'm wanting to tell my folks but I'm just waiting for the right moment.

See you all around!
- Nathan

Hi Nathan and welcome to Susans. There is no real reason for you to be in a hurry to do anything if you feel you don't want to. If you don't have one already, I would suggest getting started with therapy sessions as they can help very much with understanding where you are and how to get where you want to go with your transition journey.

I do have somesort of counselor but I started going to her for other problems. I've been thinking about contacting her again to discuss gender related problems but at the same time I'm not sure what to discuss or even how to ask if she could help me with that. Here in the Netherlands we've got two genderteams in two different cities and that's all there is for transfolk. As far as I would know, the rest would hardly know anything about it. Just bluntly asking her 'Do you have experience with people with bodydysphoria' in an e-mail seems a bit off for some reason.
