In England people born transsexual have achieved significant restoration of their human rights through the Law. There is protection under the Sex Discrimination Act and the Single Equality Act, and the 2004 Gender Recognition Act provides a corrected birth certificate.
The protected characteristic is gender reassignment. Put simply, "It is discriminatory to treat people who propose to start to or have completed a process to change their gender less favorably".
