My Voice Therapy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Okay I thought I will share how I've been developing my female voice.  I get lessons from grad students during their clinic hours.  The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dana Longstreth for the Department of Communicative Disorders loves to help the transgender community.  On average is costs about $21 per session.  My voice was 90-95 Hertz and currently everyday conversations 125-135 Hertz.  During the sessions I have had my voice at 185 Hertz.  I have achieved this is 3 semesters. 

Is this program available at every University Speech and Language Pathology Schools - well I don't know.  Listed below is all the University Speech and Language Pathology Schools with the USA.  Search their web pages or let your fingers do the walkin' and pick up the phone.

I live near 3 of the Colleges listed. Also I found this book at the U of Houston:

Sandy Hirsch, and Michelle Mordaunt Richard K. Adler

Don't buy, too expensive, but worth looking over, also interesting is the other services Speech Therapists can offer the TG/TS community. Also, the VA (that's right Uncle Sam's Veteran's Administration) offers this service as well (so they say) to TG/TS Veterans.

Did it actually take you 3 Semesters or 3 sessions?

Okay, I started out with a very deep voice, an accent, plus to make it worse - I use to has a lisp!!!  So now learning to speak very forward, it brought the lisp back.  I also thought I was tone deaf, now I can hear the changes in pitch, correct and continue with speaking.  I just can't sing!!!

I will be doing another semester, my overall voice and speech has greatly improved.

Fantastic! I've been doing the FYFV program the past 2 mo., have more control over my throat muscles, and able to raise my pitch some and speak  more through the throat and mouth. Not Female yet, so somewhat Female...probably more Female!

Unfortunately for me, Ga state University doesn't treat transgendered patients :(( I'm going to see if University of GA does but they are 75 miles away from me. I find it odd, a big university in the middle of Atlanta doesn't do this?

Surely U jest Stephe? Nothing in Atlanta, not even Emory UMC? Atlanta ain't no postage stamp.

I took three semesters of voice therapy at George Washington University in D.C. It was wonderful. A lot of the grad students in their speech therapy program go there because they offer this opportunity. You're taught by female grad students. The professors (female) watch through one-way glass and will intervene when necessary to correct the grad students. I always baked my instructors cookies for the last class in appreciation. I'd like to go back for a refresher one of these days. You have to go dressed, to show you're serious and committed, just so you know.

I'm not joking. I'm not sure if the therapists here don't see this as a "real problem" or what the deal is. I have calls into a dozen speech therapy centers here and will report what I find, so far 5 places said they don't work with transgendered people.. I live full time so going as Stephe is the only option I have now :)

Try Emory University, they also have an LGBT center for students that appears to be TG strong (I know you're not a student, but they might know if the Speech Therapy pgm offers this), are you a VET? The VA does.

Home of the Southern Comfort Conference...Atlanta... ??? ??? ???

Does anybody think it would be worth more money to get speech training from someone more experienced than a supervised grad student or does it seem sufficient?
