Title: The Switch has happened
Post by: Robert Scott on September 13, 2011, 09:42:29 AM
Okay -- so for 40 years of my life everyone has used female pronouns and called me Robyn.

So, when I started going by Robert and using male pronouns it felt strange and awkward.   I liked it but it still felt weird.  I still had problems refering to myself in a male pronoun or description too.  I am out to nearly everyone.  I am not offically out at work but a couple folks know but everyone at work calls me Rob.

However, sometime this past week I noticed the switched happened.  I noticed that hearing female pronouns and Robyn sounded weird like who is that person.  I also noticed that I am using male names and pronouns when refering to myself (like dad and husband)....I have made the mental switch.  It feels good!

This always fascinates me as I'm very fluent in Italian where language is far more gender specific. Imagine having to say or write "I've gone shopping" in a different way depending on one's gender! Now that really does my head in, thankfully English is comparatively gentle with us as are some other languages like Indonesian.
