Title: Can a regular therapist give permission?

For hormone replacement and such. I don't think there's any real actual 'gender therapists' in my area.
I've been seeing a therapist and have told her of my gender issues and all that.

My therapist said he could do it. There are NO gender therapists in my area. Like period. Heck, I don't even think there is any in the state. West Virginia sucks. Lol.

There's at least one in Huntington.

Well sweet, have to ask about that then.
By the way, Kentrie, I just wanted to say you look like this one guy I had in a class awhile ago...yeah. Ha.

I've checked and there isn't any in Huntington unless it's unlisted or something.

I'm talking to someone at Prestera Center on the east end. I'm not sure how the normal HRT process goes because we're trying to get me on HRT w/ through the VA.

Yes they can. My doctor referred me to a psychologist and she can give recommendations to my doctor. My doctor said that he has honored her recommendations in the past on his transgender patients.

And do not forget the fact that there is NO requirement that there even be a letter from a shrink for an MD to prescribe hormones...there ARE some who will work on an informed-consent basis. It may take tossing a few darts at the phone book, but being willing to think outside the box can be beneficial.

Yea...I'd like to find a doctor that would prescribe hormones on informed consent. Or get a General Practice Physician to prescribe with a letter from one of the on-campus therapists....Especially after my last experiences with the only therapist and doctor in the "gender community". I've been ignored and just seen a lot of general insensitivity.
Seriously, after that experience I came really close to just purchasing hormones illegally from Europe...Even went so far as to get an account with a pharmacy that would sell them...

Tennessee is really horrible when it comes to certain healthcare branches, wether it's therapy, endocrinology, cosmetic skin care, plastic surgery, hairdressers, whatever you can name that has to do with transitioning or cosmetics, it seems this state has some of the most discriminatory, insensitive, uncaring doctors out there. You'd especially think Nashville, being the "Music City" of the country, home to all sorts of music and film stars, would be very progressive toward all these issues, but it always seems like it's the exact opposite. All the professionals from all corners of the cosmetic and body field seem to want to keep the "normal people" as "normal" as possible; it's almost like you have to be an actress or singer before anyone will truly help you here. If you're not famous, the professionals are like "I see nothing wrong with you, get outta here/spend $125 on this useless product I invented."
Hopefully we both can find a informed consent clinic somewhere in Tennessee....

My therapist is very up for it and has been doing tons of research and she's handling it very professionally, but she seems to have doubts, she said she would need permission or something to evaluate me since she's not experienced in the area.
