Title: Funny/odd nurse slip-up
Post by: Wraith on September 19, 2011, 03:09:07 AM
I went to get a quick blood sample done today, and as I sat down and rolled up my sleeve, the nurse said:
"I'm just gonna stick you in one of your pretty wom- ....ARMS!"
She was about to say "women". I just laughed at her.
I think she knew I'm "female by birth" but got nervous by the whole situation.

Also, when I went to pick up a package in the post afterwards the people there were reluctant to give anything to me, they kept looking at my ID and asked confused things like if the package was for "her" or me. I think it's about time I renew my ID card :P

Once when I was feeling under the weather and had gone in to see the doctor, the nurse taking my vitals and information asked me if there was "any possibility I could be pregnant?"  I was tired and had been sick all week, so without entirely realizing it I blurted out, "No, I haven't been out of the house all week."  She was able to compose herself long enough to get out of the room before bursting into laughter.  I haven't been asked that again by anyone in my doctors office since that took place, I don't think they think I'm a prostitute either, but who really knows?

Once while I was in the hospital, I talked about being trans with one of the nurses. He asked if I had a preferred name, and I told him Julian. He must have started talking to the other staff, because by the time I got out, I was being called Julia (my given name) about a third of the time, Julian a third of the time, and a third of the time I got called Julianne. :P
