Title: separation from my birth name
Post by: anibioman on September 19, 2011, 10:21:41 AM
im very much separated from my birth name. i always hated it and hated telling people my name. now i dont even think of it as my name or being connected to me at all  its just what some people used to call me and some dumb asses still do.i dont respond to it and it takes a good amount of time to register and then of course i get super pissed. i find myself around a girl who has my birth name (shes hot) and it doesnt phase me when people call out her name. im sharing this purely out of curiosity did this happen to anyone else.

Now that my name is legally changed, I surely do feel separated from my birth name! My birth name will ALWAYS haunt me on my birth records, but at least not very many people will be seeing it anyways. My birth name is so common as ****, it even pissed me off before I knew I was transgender when every other girl in town had my name. I'm so glad I don't have to associate with such a lame name anymore.

I've known lots of people with my birth name, so I learned to never respond to it unless my last name was used or someone related to me said it.

I've been in a tiny private school for the past 4 years, so I was the only one with that name for a while, but starting last year, this exceptionally unattractive and not-so-bright girl stereotype showed up and she has my birth name.  :-\ At least the person with 'your' old name is nice looking.

I feel the same exact way and always have, honestly. I've never been comfortable telling that name to anyone. I've always hated the hell out of it.

I wish I could separate from mine. I almost never hear it anymore, and it's quite uncommon anyway. But seeing it written or hearing someone say it makes me involuntarily cringe, even if they're not talking about me. The name itself has come to symbolize everything I hated about being in the closet. And it brings my past up to the surface in an eye blink.

Yeah. I've never associated my birth name with myself, even when living as female. Obviously I knew people were referring to me but I just never thought of myself that way. It sounded like just another word to me; not an identity.

I also get offended when people call me the short form of my birth name, which is the male form. That's not my damn name so I don't get why people say it.

I always felt unassociated with my birth name, too, and hated giving it out or using it at all, even before I knew why. My chosen name feels much more natural for me.
