Title: social networking

I'm curious what choices there are for social networking websites (e.g. Facebook). I'm sure that there are a few I don't even know about.
I'm a part-time crossdresser; at this point, I'm just trying to create some sort of web presence (not looking to meet anyone yet).
What sites exist, and what are their features?

May I be the first to say that I absolutely hate social networking and the sites thereof.
Some people say they have uses, but I could argue against all there reasons.
My experience, my kids experience (before they stopped using them), and nearly all the kids I have ever worked with............to this day........remind me what an awful thing those places are.
There are immediate reasons, and long term reasons as to why they are so unhealthy.
I suppose one could view them as tools....ok.
However, most people have no idea how to use that tool and how not to. It's that simple.
Sorry, I know I didn't answer your question but couldn't resist posting.
Debbie. :)
Granted, you didn't 'answer my question', but I appreciate the response. It'll help me understand why some don't use such sites.
Actually, I didn't know about FB until I (technically, my 'real' self) got about 7 friend request for it (over about a year); it took me a few months to research it, and eventually register. I've had it for about a year.
I found some other threads like this, and one of them mentioned Second Life -- that sounds like my fem persona. I'm considering that.

I like the ones I'm one, different ones for different reasons.

Well my favorite social networking is Youtube. This is where my transgender life is stored.
Facebook and real people contact, I'm just the average women (that just happens to be really tall). Will people know I'm trans, I just don't mix the two.

I am on facebook and to be honest I HATE it!! I will bet it has been at least 5 weeks since I have been on my page. There is really nothing in life that is that important that needs to be posted there. plus think about this, some of my friends on there have over 500 "friends" . no to me its just a waste I only keep it because hat is how my family chooses to get a hold of me. Even then I just wait til I get an email from facebook then I go there. I know this does't answer your question sorry

....and of course what we must not forget is that nobody has 500 friends. A friend is somebody your have totally mutual trust and care with. It's person you have a special bond with. Most people are lucky if they have one !
Debbie :)
THANK YOU!!!!! That was what i was trying to say but in the middle of typing my mind went blank and i just could seem to get it back.

chathour is pretty cool, although I haven't checked up on it in a while.
Basically it is like a chat service, but you have a profile you can build, and you can add friends and post (up to 15) pictures. There is a setting on the pictures that allows you to have them only viewed by friends. You can make your own chatroom and moderate it and everything. It's an alright site and is regularly updated and patched.
