Iranian Gays Coming Out on Facebook

The recent reported executions of three gay men in Iran took place against a backdrop of protest: Gay Iranians are emerging from the closet, at least on Facebook, reported British newspaper the Guardian on Sept 20.
"A group of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Iranians have posted videos of themselves on Facebook in a campaign to highlight the discrimination against sexual minorities in Iran where homosexuals are put to death," the Guardian reported.

Thanks for posting that, very interesting. Have met Parvez Sharma at dinner at a film festival three years ago in the UK but can't say I was overly impressed with the film (Jihad for Love) or himself although it's in a good cause.

The law in Iran is of course very wrong as is their widely praised attitude towards transexuality, all based on maintaining a strictly binary patriarchal heteronormative society.

Here's a good explanation as to what he, Sharma, referred to as 'Greater Jihad' (Jihad al-Akbar). Jihad al-Nafs refers to the struggle against what is usually translated as the soul.
