Title: question about a dream
Post by: Taka on September 25, 2011, 09:07:05 AM
i dreamt a while back that eagles came for me, but i don't know what they wanted me for, and someone was hindering them from telling me by shooting at them. it gave me a feeling there's something i must do, i should have followed them but they were killed because i hesitated. also, a couple days ago i dreamt that an eagle with a young chick visited me, they'd made a nest outside the window, but i can't remember a single thing being said

the reason these dreams are bothering me is because i am named after this bird, and that i really can't remember having dreamt of eagles before. if anyone here knows whether eagles have any significance in dreams, could you please help enlighten me?

Taka,
I can't speak in reference to things such as Psychology and Science but in the Bible Eagles are types and shadows of God and Jesus. Such as when he said that where the carcass is the eagles gather. Meaning if those who die daily as Paul said make up the gathering of the church where the carcass is the eagles that gather are God and Jesus. As he said, where two or more are gathered in my name there I am.
People can hinder you from following the Lord or your search fro what they word of God may mean. They can hinder you from having a relationship with God.
As for the eagles dying, people can destroy ones hope of eternal life if the person allows.
Isaiah said they that wait upon the Lord shall mount up as eagles. Loosely translated they shall be led of the Lord just as God told Moses I carried thee on eagles wings. Spiritual types and shadows.
I don't know if any of this applies but it is what the word of God refers to about eagles.
Hope this helps.

i see.. that really does help a bit, definitely something to think about. thank you

i'll welcome any other interpretations too, there might be an important clue somewhere that i'm still missing. it doesn't have to be anything to do with psychology, i'm looking for other people's knowledge about the spiritual world

My therapist taught me to interpert dreams this way:
1 Pick out each piece in the dream.  e.g. eagles, shooting at them, message for you, etc.
2 Then free associate each of them and write down your associations.  This is important since it doesn't generally matter what the signifigance of the item is in general - it only matters what that item means to you.  Eagles may have a special signifigance to you and that is probably what is represented in your dream.
3 Read all of the associations and try to find a common thread among them - this should lead you to the interpretation.

Dream interpretation can be fun and very enlightening.  Good luck.

i'm no good at this free association game, but let's have a try..

shooting eagles is something you simply don't do. those guys deserve to die

message for me. i have to go some place, but i've no idea where, so i'm stuck at that one. i think they came from the east, wonder what can be found there. fly into the sunrise?

eagles signify wisdom, clear-sightedness, apparently also messengers from god? or those who take you to him?

the thing is probably that i'm supposed to be like an eagle, they're my family. that's the kind of feeling i get. so what i need to figure out is wth an eagle really is. maybe it's just my soul wanting to spread it's wings and fly away to the place it belongs. a place of freedom, but it would come with a necessity to take responsibility for my own being

am i making sense at all?

Aquila? :)

Can only comment on this from a psychological perspective. From a Freudian perspective, which I don't agree with, birds represent the phallus. In fact in Italian slang 'l'uccello' means just that. For Jung birds represent the soul, their activity and condition are indicative of the state of the soul. I'm no analyst but would consider the dream very significant from a Junghian perspective due in part to the connection between your name and the bird involved. Hazarding a very uneducated guess the nest and chick would represent your transition and growth, the person shooting at the birds could possibly represent your super ego and as for the birds themselves I'm not too sure.

That said I once wasted three years in Junghian analysis without any discernable benefit. Very interesting dream though, thanks for sharing.

Taka,

If that interpretation "feels" right then it probably is.  Sometimes it helps to put your dream and free associations away for a day or two and then revisit them to see if something new pops out.

when it comes to the shooting of those eagles, it might just be that i'm afraid of radical changes and leaving the "safe" place i currently have with my parents

but what bothers me is that i can't figure out what kind of change it really is that i need. the eagles are a clue to that, but i don't know enough about what the bird signifies to be able to figure it out. what kind of person is an eagle, or has an eagle as a guardian spirit or something?

actually it's 'arn' (old norse..)
i don't know hoe uneducated your guess really is. it kind of makes sense, i got this kind of 'time to leave the nest' feeling. *sigh* the decision is mine to make, and the reason i hesitate is because i know that the responsibility will have to be mine alone. if i get lost it's my own fault, and nobody around me, at least none in my family can help. that's probably why i have to leave

the eagles are probably there to guide me in the right direction. too bad so many, possibly including myself want to shut them up and kill my slightest chance of freedom
