I'll make this quick. I got this letter today about jury duty - it's just a questionnaire but it says by law, I have to fill it out. Thing is it's under my birth name, which I had changed TWO years ago! Legally this isn't even addressed to me. It's really pissing me off! I've also changed my name twice so I hope this doesn't some how come around another two times!
Anyways there is a part for gender. Let me make this very clear, GENDER, not sex! I looked at the help sheet and it just says to put an X in either the male or female box when indicating gender.
There is nothing on this to state that I've changed my name... not exactly sure what I'm supposed to do. Can I just toss it, say it got lost in the mail... or that I toss everything for that name? lol.

I recommend you do Not toss it, the judge can issue a bench warrant for your arrest. Take it to the courthouse and talk with the clerk.

Found this part that says I can scribble my old name out if I changed it. But still, the gender thing? Any ideas? I'll fill this stupid thing out, I just don't want to put female!

Is there a number on the card saying "any questions or if you have some fun filled excuse" or something? Usually there's a number. If there isn't look up it up online. Just search for "jury duty phone number" and they city, county, or sate that the courthouse is for.

Quote from: JayValentine on October 04, 2011, 11:55:22 AMI think it's mostly for statistical purposes where it doesn't count/matter. I'm mostly looking at them using the wrong name. I know one person who had a summons in both names.

Well hopefully I don't get fined or imprisoned for this because I'm marking MALE on the sheet. There is no help online for it, so I'm taking a big risk here and am going to suffer anxiety greatly for the next few days. Fantastic! I ->-bleeped-<-in hate my life.

I got a federal jury duty notice a while back. I crossed out my birth name and filled out my proper name. I also marked the male box. I can document that with my DL and passport. I can think of no reason someone should look at my birth certificate and/or social security record for jury duty so I'm not to worried about it.
Just figured I'd let you know you weren't the only guy to do that. If they give you problems you can always explain that they should have worded the question better, you answered for YOUR gender and where completely honest. I doubt it will come to that though.

isn't a jury supposed to be an equal presentation of one's social environment? as in, if they're calling for a woman but get a dude, wouldn't they have to replace you, because otherwise there'd be more men represented in the jury than in general society?
