Just this morning, I got a call from my local Old Navy store *Just so we're on the same page* and we set up a job interview for Monday at 9:15. I'm really excited, but I'm also pretty scared already. When he asked, "Is this ((Insert girly name)) ?" I said, "Yes, this is her," From sheer force of habit, only to choke on my tongue directly after. Looking back, I wish that I would have called myself a 'him,' because on the stupid internet application, where it asks you your gender, I put 'I prefer not to answer,' This could have given me a good way to explain the trans issue to him during the interview.
So my concern is this, when I go into the interview, what do you guys think is a good way to bring up the issue about being trans? I don't just want to be like, "Oh, by the way, I'm getting a sex change, I hope that doesn't bother you," I just don't know what would be a professional and classy way to bring something like that up that doesn't ruin the chances of me getting this job.
Have any of you had similar experiences?
And how'd you bring it up to your potential employers, and did you get the job in the end?

I never brought it up even though I knew I wasn't passable. I don't think it should be discussed. A lot of employers turned me down despite having more experience than what they were looking for. But I never gave up and ultimately someone hired me. You can come out later.

I'm job hunting at the moment and am presenting as female during interviews. It makes me uncomfortable to do so, but I feel that as I don't pass very well it will likely seem more professional. When I get hired I will inform them that I intend to present myself as male before I begin working.

I presented as male for my last interview, pre-everything. I included a note in my cover letter about being a transgendered person, mostly because I knew my references might slip up on names and pronouns. I got a note back asking which name and pronouns I preferred, and what my legal name was. I went to the interview in a nice button-up ans slacks, and was hired on the spot. It really does work out sometimes.
I find I have a lot more trouble at interviews when I present as female, because I'm uncomfortable as hell and I feel like I'm falsifying an application or something shady like that. Just be yourself. If they don't want to hire you based on gender presentation, chances are it would be a crappy place to work as a trans person anyway.
