Title: Younger versus older

I think that older girls have just as much or more GID to deal with? It seems that the older one gets ,, the greater the dysphoria. Its more of a issue of age and the era that you grew up in,, I believe. For myself, I grew up with most of the common feelings of most others on this site, then at an older age there wasn't as many options that I see on younger girls. Growing older and not very likely to change ones looks through HRT or other methods, makes me feel like I need to just live my life like I am. I know that younger girls have a greater success rate in transitioning , although passing seems to be the driving force in their endeavors. That is ok,, cuz at an older age , to me, its just to be happy and feel good with yourself regardless of whether you pass or not.
My view might be contrary to the collective feelings? But at this point in my life, my feminine feelings are just as authentic as any others. I know that there are other older girls that feel this way and I hope that it is ok to feel like I do?
Hugs,, Samantha

Two things. One, the older you get the more regrets you're likely to have and the more you think (if even unconscionably) that you've got ever fewer trips around the sun to do what you wanted to do. Second, the older you get, the less you care about what other people think.

As an older person, being happy with myself trumps whether or not I pass. There are opportunities now that weren't available years ago. I'm happy that young people have those opportunities. I'm just happy that more things are out into the open.

Ladies, I have to tell ya , with comments like that I don't really have a helluva lot I can add. I too am THRILLED at seeing the younger crowd embrace both Cross dressing and ->-bleeped-<- as a realistic possibility for those so inclined. Hey, when I was coming along , there were laws on the books making Cross dressing a jail able offense . Finding someone who wished to actually change Gender , who whee, a trip to a mental institution ! ellen

I am very much in the same place as you are Samantha. The feelings of being female are stronger than ever. Oh, and I'm also finding I care less and less what other people think. Sure if I had one wish from a Genie it would be to be a beautiful young woman but I'm comfortable with who I am right now with all of it's obvious imperfections.

Julie ,,
I know how you feel sweety. Being older, I am in a different space or place than most girls. It is ok and I need to accept who I am, although I do get a little upset after reading the posts of the younger girls as they have more to look forward to, They also believe that passing is the most important thing to them. Let me tell you, I go out dressed a couple of times a week and all I need to do is feel
like a girl even though I might look like one. Ones attitude about their self is everything.

One thing certain is that people tend to be more stable in terms of finance as getting older. Becoming financially independent is an important factor in living openly as a crossdresser or transgender.

Well, I think there may be more than one reason to consider for this. I have heard that changes in testosterone levels may influence ones GID to an extent with age. Obviously, though, there would have to be other factors. In my own life, I've found that after decades of self examination, I understand myself much better than when I was a young sprout. I grew up with more of an identification with the feminine gender than with the male and spent most of my young adulthood looking and thinking quite androgynously. I never quite confronted myself about it, though, until I was in my mid thirties and never really felt OK with it all until I was well into my forties. For some of us it takes a long time to get our (bleep) together.
And, as Barbie notes, finances are a factor. Being a girl-- much less becoming a girl-- ain't cheap.

I reflect back to my younger days, tight skin feminine face and slim figure and a need to dress in female clothes. Why I had no idea, all I knew was that it was considered wrong and social attitudes and family requirements for men and women were so black and white, there was no gray for me. I had to accept something I resented.
So wish I had the internet then. I may have had a better youth and lived happier than I did.
Young crossdressers, TG,TV,TS,MtF and FtM etc have so many opportunities to live as they desire today. The internet has opened their minds up that there are more people who are in the same situation and society is growing to be more acceptable of them.
Now I am confused as the need to dress controls me and my desires to be who I was surface again. Yes I have no one to answer to anymore except myself and years of being educated by a society, that what I desired was wrong according to the rules that were laid out then. I am opening my mind to more wider views and realize that I maybe actually different and with that I feel more in control of myself.
So the older I get the more intense the desire is to go further than just dress. Unfortunately the mind is still tainted with the effects from social rules that brings fear to be doing something wrong.
One thing I do understand is that the older I am, the wider my knowledge base is and the bigger my heart is for me to be more respectful of others and loving to those I treasure. I just hope they still treasure me as a person who is a little different.

I reflect back to my younger days, one side the hippie world other side the old ways of my parents.
Strange thing is I never feel male or female in my thinking ,guess I am both.
Thinking back to the 70,s I do wonder what happened to all that hippies and what the do now :)
The Internet do bring us much use full info but also make believe , we are so brainwashed what to find beautiful that we forget to life or go in depression because we cant reach that image.
Guess that the can i pass comes from this, as a old person I see young people texting to the person standing next to them ! No wonder we get more lonely every day or I am just getting to old :)
To old to wear short skirts anywhere but home ,but still wear them same models from the 70,s but few sizes bigger :)
Think the feelings we old one,s had are the same as the young ones have ,but we had more fear .

As a child of the 60s, no resources...lots of regrets. I am very happy for those of today as the resources are there for them.

Older people have more, my dysphoria's not as bad as I'm still young. Sometimes if I see a man whose fully developed, my dysphoria kicks in just from imagining not going on hormones and letting myself look like that. *cringe*

I beleive many cultures have become more understanding in recent years. Crossdressers no longer need to fear being considered mentally ill persons. There were places that used electroshock therapy to "cure" the CD. Younger people have an easier life as a TG person. Probably there are more CD's in the older age group. Many of we older ladies have found that is no longer a simple desire but a need. If we do not fully accept our femme persona insanity is sure to follow.
