"Steve Stanton is an exemplary public servant and has served the City of Largo loyally for over a decade. He is being fired for one reason: he made the brave decision to live openly as his true self. The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community has fought long and hard for federal employment protections to stop just this type of outrageous, disgusting discrimination. Sadly, the firing of Steve Stanton is another in a long, shameful line of examples of why Congress must introduce—and pass—the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)."

This also highlights why more of us need to be politically active.  NCTE has lobby days.
WHAT: NCTE LOBBY DAY

Writing letters to elected officials, magazines, newspapers, etc:

1)  The message needs to be short and to the point
2)  Stay on topic, do not wander
3)  Use easily verifiable facts
4)  Type or handprint only, be neat.  Single spacing is fine.
4)  Do not use the letter, email, fax, whatever for character assassination
5)  Sign your name and include your location
      IE:  Lost In Time
            Somewhere, IN USA
6)  Include contact information so that the person you are addressing can contact you.  They will do this to ask more questions, to verify that you exist, and they may also need to ask your permission before printing or sending on what you have written.
7)  Get as many friends, relatives, and supporters to do the same.  The more, the better.
8)  If you are not registered to vote, you may not ever receive a response from an elected official.  Register (http://www.rockthevote.com/home.php)  {US Residents only}
