WHAT kind of a doctor would prescribe hormone treatment for a healthy 11-year-old boy whose parents want him to be a girl?

This is what a Californian lesbian couple are reportedly doing to their adopted 11-year old son, Thomas Lobel, now known as Tammy.

Pauline Moreno and Debra Lobel claim the boy first told them, "I am a girl", when he was three. When he was seven he reportedly threatened self "genital mutilation" before psychiatrists diagnosed him with "gender identity disorder".

At this stage, wouldn't you think some responsible medical person would have questioned whether his mothers were projecting negative feelings about males on to the child?

Rather than taking the drastic step of giving the boy hormones to delay puberty, someone should have asked whether it was his upbringing that made him want to cut off his penis.

The presumption being that no-one has. Not the parents. Not the social workers. Not the medical staff. Just the writer.


What we have here is the beginings of the realities of negativity toward transgender. The extremists have had their rant, making specious claims about god, holy texts and such. Now this is the rather more calmer reaction.


But the problem remains the same. What these people are reacting to is the feeling, it just doesn't seem right. It just doesn't seem right that a boy should be a girl or a girl should even consider being a boy.

We all know that, doing some things to kids can cause some problems. We know, hitting them or being too critical can make them agressive or nervous. We know they need love, loads of it. That sexual abuse will make them isolated, lonely, confused and agressive.

We need an explaination for this. We need to know why some little boys want to wear dresses and bras and such.

OK, we accept that, as they get older, some children become gay. We don't like it. But we accept that. Now we have to accept little boys behaving like girls and we don't understand.

What caused this? Have these children been brainwashed? Is this pushy parents trying to impose this on their children?

We need an explaination that we can understand.

I'll be a happy girl when the public and private education systems around the world are able to finally teach the realities, and truths that we already know about this issue. At a minimum there should be some standards in place that before you 'report' on a topic, that you actually have some background and research behind you to formulate an opinion on it! It's pretty clear that this author has NO knowledge about this subject AT ALL, and only knows how to use the pejoratives that exist due to complete ignorance!

This story plays right into the old conundrum that gay/lesbian adoptive parents or teachers would adversely affect the child's sexuality.

The picture is interesting in that those are Hanukkah candles. Are these parents not only lesbians, but Jewish, too? That's two strikes.
