Start now, all it takes is a couple of years for your bones to set. Prevents facial hair too, being younger.

you look really good, not even considering you're pre-HRT. Do it now if you can, or it will get worse before it gets better. I could pass pretty well 5 years ago, but I waited and now it's going to take some surgery, the 20s are not kind.

I live in CA, I have no experience with those therapists and I cannot endorse them.
Perhaps you should start a thread asking other members if they have contacted a therapist near where you are.
Chat should be up now....
I downloaded Icechat, added the susan's server, and log in through that application- it seems I'm having complications getting in through the forum navigation as well.
If you want to get set up through icechat you can PM me and I will walk you through.

This is REALLY AMAZING. You are super lucky. You have a close to perfect body and your family is so nice, and you're so young. Keep moving forward... But keep in mind that I hate you. Just 'cause I'm jealous. D:
I'm lying. Anyway, yes, hormones must be started as soon as possible. Every month you wait is a great deal of effectiveness you lose at your age.

If you could start hormones in January, it would be great. But just asking for hormones will not give them to you right away. It all depends on the therapist and doctor and such, but I started asking two years ago. I could only see the right psychiatrist in January this year. I still have nothing. Maybe I'm an extreme case, but keep in mind that you're most probably going to get stalled. So you should start to look as fast as possible.

Not gonna lie girl, I wish I looked half as good as you when I was your age (about 2-3 years ago lol). My body frame is like the exact opposite of yours!
Also your clothes look great. You must be way excited! Also if you can get those hormones soon. Male puberty is a bitch (or bastard maybe?), and the sooner you can kill that beast the better!

I still remember when I wanted to transition before going to high school so it would be easier to be stealth. Oh well, time wasted isn't time to be dwelled upon I guess.

They may be wary if there was not a 3 month trans experience precedent. A therapist gives this reassurance, but if you go in as a girl you can probably get them straight away with informed consent. Age might be an issue. Old rules have a habit of dying hard...

Do military places have different types of doctors?
There are no gender doctors, only therapists. Though, there are doctor's who are sought out specifically as gender specialists, ones that have helped many trans people. I don't know if there are prominent ones in your area.

I'm assuming that you're using Tricare insurance or their On-Post doctors. If that is the case it's unlikely that they prescribe hormones yet*. It's certain that military sponsors cannot get hormonal treatment or surgeries through the Tricare system, and they are also subject to medical discharge (See AR 635-40, AR 635-200, AR 40-501). These don't cover dependents, and I haven't seen anything special about dependent exceptions. You can google a lot of the Tricare benefits.
There shouldn't be any harm in asking if they provide these services as you aren't subject to discharge and it doesn't hurt your father's status. They can probably offer some form of therapy if they do not provide gender specific services, but it's not likely that you will like that approach. Therapists not specializing in gender issues generally aim to "fix" you. If they don't offer what you're looking for, luckily army bases are usually not far from big cities and trans-friendly clinics.
*Not helpful to mellissa unfortunately, but the Veterans Affairs now unilaterally accept those with Gender Dysphoria, and supposedly treat and prescribe, but not surgically operate on patients.

Also consider hormone blockers if you can't get on estrogen right away, that'll at least stop you from masculinizing any further.

in the US, 16 is very early, and a great time to start, earlier is always better, but there are limitations before 18. Since your parents are supportive, you can get past a lot of that with their help. As long as you start soon you'll be fine, it's mostly around the age of 25 when the growth process stops and male genetics set in. None of the numbers you find are exact, some guys go bald by 21, others stay youthful through their 30s, really it's best to start as soon as you can just in case.

Okay ill get hormone blockers but is 16 to late and when is the dead line of age to start homes before your body turns Eww
i started HRT when I was 35. My HRT worked just fine.
The most important thing about HRT is to take it when you are ready for it and not by how you would perceive your body will be next year without it. It's something you want to discuss with your endo and therapist about
But yeah, if you're ready, go for it

Every day of my life I wish I would've had the guts to speak up before puberty hit me with a concrete brick.
I agree :P I waited like 2 years too many and by then most of the damage was done

Just looking like any other American teenage girl. Awesome parents you have.
Too late? At 16! Heem, look around at all the trans women on this forum. Most the them didn't start HRT until their 30s, 40s and 50s. There are some very fine looking ladies here.
Relax, you have it made at 16. It's a perfect time. You're very lucky to be able to transition at such a young age.
