Title: Should I go for it? Your opinions please

Ok, i'm 27, been on 'mones for 5 years with the past year on and off, and probably more 70/30 pass ability. Hopefully as I lose weight with this diet and exercise that will go back up to what I used to be at. Anyways I have also had more hair growth on the face, more hair growth in general with my body, and still haven't really had a good visit from the boob fairy.
So what this all boils down too is I traditionally still have a ways to go with transition, but I feel that if I went and got my surgery hopefully in the next year in Thailand that it would make things easier with the rest of it. I won't have to worry as much about testosterone, and maybe finally my body will lose some of this stubborn muscle mass. The kicker is that a lot, and I mean a lot, of things will have to go right over the next year. As in to the point that if one thing goes wrong i'll have to scrub the effort, and won't have much money to put into things like redoing laser. So my question is do you think that maybe i'm aiming to high or should I take the shot?

I'd say you should do it only when you are sure you can do it. It is up to you in the end though.
On another hand, if you feel really dysphoric, go for it.

I do think that the surgery will help since your body won't be producing testosterone anymore but like Bird said, it's up to you whether you're ready to take that step. Also, the fact that you've been on and off hormones for the past year may be the reason why you're getting more hair growth. You're not being consistent which is important for optimum results. One last thing, you may consider trying electrolysis. I think it's more effective in removing facial hair permanently than laser.
Good luck with whatever decision you make.

If you're doing this under the supervision of a therapist/doctor, another option is Orchiectomy, that will remove testosterone from the equation as well, but not as significant as a full SRS. You can get recommended for an Orchi much more easily than SRS. You may not even need much/any RLE time to get that operation, and all the reputable Thai/Asian doctors still require that 1 year+ recommendation letter for SRS as far as I know.

If you feel it is the right decision, I fully support it.
And food in Thailand is way better than the Thai food here. That alone is worth the trip.

I would wait on the surgery. Doing it just to reduce the testosterone? Why not just take spiro?
Personally, I consider "the surgery" at the very bottom of the list. Other than being able to wear a bikini, it doesn't have as big an impact on day to day life as other things you can do (hair, body, clothes).
If your financial sittuation is so tight that it could crash around you if one thing goes wrong? Maybe best to hold off on the most expensive thing and instead tackle laser or something like that first.

if you're really transsexual you'll do it because there is no option.

Whoa.
Whoa.
Stop right there.
That is ALL kinds of problematic for reasons which have been brought up about 21948 times in the past couple weeks at Susan's. The suggestion that there is "real" transsexuality and that SRS is somehow the be-all and end-all arbiter of the legitimacy or genuine status of a transsexual person is not kosher, and rightly so.
GUYS, transness comes in literally as many forms as there are trans* people, and suggesting that any one flavor is superior to another because of anatomy is a REALLY HYPOCRITICAL establishment of a hierarchy.

As if getting surgery defines a person. I have no plans for SRS... I am proud of having a penis as if that piece of flesh defines me.

I guess i'm going to make the effort. Mathematically its against me but worse case scenario i'll have more money to use to move to a different town at the end of the year then I would otherwise. Best case scenario means laser should be more permanent, and I won't have to worry about further damage from testosterone. Not to mention one of the harder hurdles in my transition plan behind me.

There are many reasons for and against. 7 billion people, 7 billion identities...
That said, this thread now has my attention, and my attention is a bad thing to have.

Oh yes she did. I'm new here on this board, but I've noticed some real arrogance by some girls here. I'm not going to go into the whole rebuttal for what lilacwoman said here... but I certainly get the impression that some feel that you're a woman ONLY if the penis is gone. So what do the rest of us do? Go kill ourselves because YOU don't see us as women?
I'm really happy for those girls that feel that they will be complete after SRS and FFS have been done. But not everyone can afford that route or need that route to feel complete, happy, and/or content for where they stand in their journey towards woman hood.
We could say, "well, you can have your vagina, but you still can't have kids". But that wouldn't get us anywhere and I wouldn't go that low.
I feel that we should respect people's choices even if we don't see eye to eye on everything.
Monica.
