Title: Handling an accident as a girl
Post by: Aileen on October 21, 2011, 03:08:56 PM
I was driving to an event - cruising down the motorway when a lorry which was two cars ahead of me lost something. The car in front of me crashed into that and finally lost control crashing. The front-left wheel was ripped out and it looked horrible. I was able to stop about 3 inches behind the car. Finally when I stopped I was able to secure the crash site and do first aid.

The problem I was facing was people standing there just looking. And that's something I really hate - and I was working like a dog to do my stuff. Now as a girl I was having problems to get people to move their asses.

In the end I did all the work and when police and EMTs arrived and nobody really cared - except for the cops who gave me a strange look after seeing my ID cards...

My problem is that you have to kick the others in the butt before they start moving - and as a guy, people follow. As a girl, you are pretty much on your own. It's not about someone who gives me the pat on the back saying 'Well done' - it's about the attitude of people which makes me hulk up and go berserk...

actually the worst part was, when somebody of the EMTs or the police wanted to know something, they referred to me as the tall amazon or dominatrix as I was giving orders to people standing around to prevent them from being in the way by letting them clean up the crash site or setting up breakdown triangles as needed.

I'm rather tall also and have a habit if taking command in emergency situations  ;D  Anyone that wishes to call me an Amazon or whatever is welcome to do so... They can call me a badass bitch from hell and I'll take it as a compliment  :)  Granted, the EMTs and Police should be more respectful and use proper pronouns

The main thing is, you took action, you jumped in to help  ;)  It is bothersome that others stand about with their thumbs up their others and act stupid

Walk tall and proud

Hugs

- Virginia

In the end I can be happy that someone was able to help that girl in the car wreckage. I'm just shocked how careless people are.

Plague, Virginia, thanks for your kind words - and I agree that it was best to jump into the situation as it could have been worse for the crash victim. Not sure if she realized that she was rescued by a woman who was a guy about a few hours ago. But we'll see.

Todays newspaper (small local newspaper) did report about that accident and about a "girl saving the situation". I have no clue where they got the picture of me carrying that girl on my arms to the transporter of the EMT guys...

That people can be so careless in a situation like that is disgusting...And that they can seem to care more about what the person giving orders looks like rather than what they're actually ordering makes me want to head-desk.

You get a ton of respect from me for doing this Aileen. The people who are there for others when it matters most, and who can take charge of a situation gone wrong...those people are the true heroes of our world. You, miss, are a hero in my book :). Bravo.
