Title: My terrible height dysphoria

Eyup. The title says it all. I have very bad height dysphoria. I obsess about being short (probably way too much). Not just because of this, but I do have suicide thoughts and constantly compare my height to others. I have/am considering the limb lengthening surgery. Even though it creeps me out some days are so bad I just think "to heck with it, I'm getting the surgery". But then I always think "wait, won't my arms be off porportion with my legs?" aside from that, all the other problems that would arise from getting this surgery. I'll admit it, I am a little desperate to get taller. 5'10 would be a dream. I would settle for 5'6 or possibly even 5'7. I am currently 5'4 at the moment. I have tried loving myself for who I am, not who I want to be. But, I don't know. It seems like the most difficult thing ever.
PS some people say genetics help height? My parents were tall. Even my big sister is 5'6 1/2. I have also heard the absolute deadline for height growth for women is age 21. This is the other thing, every day I keep wishing for a growth spurt, and that it's "not too late". So. Yeah. :-\

I'm sorry your so dysphoric about your height. I don't think 5'4 is bad though. I know you'd like to be taller, I would too. I wish I was at least your height... I'm about 4'10 or 4'11.

I swear I scanned that post like 4 times and didn't see that.
I'm 5'5. It's really not that bad being shorter. You could try lifts.

lifts? you mean those shoes? yea i thought about that but then i thought well what if i'm hanging out with my buddies or something at their house and i had to take the shoes off. then, well. that would only make things more awkward. unfortunately i want the real thing.

The surgery is expensive and not common. There are tons of short cis guys out there. Have you been berated or made fun of for being short? It's not that bad to be a shorter guy.

I know I should be happier with my height. I am thankful for what I have. But some days, you know? It just. I suppose I should be more greatful. Actually my male cousin comes from a short family. His dad is only 5'2 his sisters are 4'9 and 4'11. And he's young, but he doesn't look like he'll grow that much. Still I can't help feeling this way no matter how hard I try to take my mind off of this.

Well, I have been made fun of for being a short female (how I currently present myself) all my friends are taller than me, and it's just a really bad image thing for myself personally.

Theirs a surgery that makes you taller? o.o
Btw Josh I'm not ignoring you. I just don't know what to tell you.
I think with time you'll learn to accept yourself but that's a sucky answer.
:/ sorry man!
Nah it's cool man. It's not like there's a "YOU MUST REPLY OR ELSE" button anywhere :P heck I'm happy if I get any replies.

I feel like that frequently. Height is actually what I feel the worse about the most often. Barefoot I'm 5'5, but some days I'm 5'4. The shoes I normally wear give me about 2 inches. So I'm used to interacting with people standing around 5'7 which is closer to average height for a guy and taller then a lot of the women. Tonight at work my shoes came untied and was really irritating me so I kicked them off right before a bunch of people came to my line. I guess I was slouching a lot too because I was tired. There just seemed to be a huge height difference than normal. I am always comparing my height to others and I felt really short then. I often consider having leg lengthening surgery.
I think most people in my family are on the shorter side. I really only know the Italian half and I think Italians tend to be a little shorter. 5'8 is considered tall for the men in my family. I don't think there is an absolute deadline, it's just when your growth plates fuse. I often wish for a growth spurt. In between 18 and 21 I grew 3 inches.

I used to feel extremely dysphoric about my height (5'3") as well. I even wore lift shoes for several years. But I got tired of wearing (hidden) heels and having a limited selection of shoes, so I quit that. Now I just try not to think about it and stand up straighter. I know that doesn't help much, but there isn't a whole lot that you can do about your height at this point.

I feel short... I run around my 6'10 and 6'3 brothers like a gnat. Parents both circling 6'0, granddad 6'2, uncles 6'4 and 6'5, cousins, yeah they're tall too. I'm 5'7. I don't know how that happened. I'm not being ungrateful about that, I know it's not that bad considering, but still I feel where you're coming from.
I don't think I would ever want to be 6'10. Can he even fit in a car?

josh, 21 being the limit for growth is untrue it depends on when your puberty starts and the arc of your growth. short guys can succeed i have a really short friend (shorter then you) who has a much taller girlfriend who is really really pretty. dont worry about it even not so short guys feel inadequate about their height and size (like me).

Nope. Not a car, not a seat at a theater, not a regular-sized anything. That kind of height is only good for reaching things, momentarily impressing girls, and making your brothers laugh when you concuss yourself on low doorways.
LOL. well that made me feel a bit better.

This gives me some hope. But actually, venting this out made me feel better already in general. Maybe that's all I needed.

Keep in mind that you're not too short, but (mostly) everyone else is too tall :) That's how I like to think of it, anyway.

I'm 5'4". I meet a lot of guys/men my height or shorter. Yes, I am short, but even if I were born a cis male, I'd be short. My brother is all of 5'6". So yeah, accept it, embrace it, and don't fear it. Nothing worse than a short guy who is trying to compensate for being short. I've met a few over the years.

I don't know if Australia just has heaps of short blokes, but I regularly stand several inches taller than guys around here and I'm only 5'6". I started actively making a point to search for short guys instead of focusing on tall ones and it was a real eye-opener just how numerous short men actually are.

ಠ_ಠ ah, i wish i was 5'5" i'd give anything to be that height. damn. ~jealous~
I'm only 5'1/2" and at the end of the day i'm 4'9/10" (asdfghjkl ಠ_ಠ I dont get that ಠ_ಠ )
I know of a cis-guy who's only 4'11" and probably wont ever get taller than that, so you know 'least we ain't the smallest.
There are plenty of guys that are only 5'1" - 5'6", and the short guys allways seem to be cooler 8).

I'm 5 ft and I pass as a guy most of the time.
Be happy you got 4 inches extra ;) height is not so much an issue if your general look + attitude is male.
