Apparently to get my Louisiana birth certificate re-issued with a male sex marker, the court can require me to prove that my transsexualism has been "properly diagnosed".  How is this diagnosis proven and who is authorised to properly diagnose transsexualism?  Has anyone had to prove something similar?

"properly diagnosed" is translated as a differential diagnosis, which all good therapists perform anyways when assessing clients. should be a copy of the assessment in your file (with the therapist).

"authorization" likely meaning a licensed mental health specialist, although one with masters or phd tend to have more creditability legally.

Thanks, flan.  The problem will be that I'll be transitioning overseas and want to go the route of informed consent vs. therapist to start HRT therapy.  Do you think that when I am assessed for readiness for SRS by a therapist/psych that, that will be enough?  I read also that most who have had surgery satisfy the criteria.  Will the fact that I will have had surgery by then be enough?

I believe so (but don't quote me on it :P ) for any surgeon that goes by the SOC (since assessment is part of the recommendation as pertains to development of the client since the therapists first encounter).

getting it done post the fact should be as easy as a certified doctor/surgeon's letter stating the nature of the surgery performed or followed up on.
