Title: The importance of drag queens in the MtF community

There are a lot of different transgirls in the community. Ones who don't mind looking a little geeky, like tomboys, or even androgynous. We have lesbians and straight girls. We have many different people in the community. If you want to look like a tom boy...read no further. There are a lot of transwomen who want to attract a lot of men and look feminine. For many of them, if they trace their evolution...it goes back to drag queens.
Say what you will about gay men. A good majority of them make beautiful, ultra feminine girls that look better than any TS or GG. From makeup application to wearing clothes that flatter their figures, most of them are experts at looking feminine. Now many gay men are born femme to begin, but the WERQ they do to look good is amazing.
I have about a hundred drag queens on my fb list. We correspond, we talk, we share makeup tips. Once they figure out I am not a crazy drag obsessed fruitfly. They then applaud me on living what they do on the weekends...FULL time. Whether we want to acknowledge it or not. We essentially live in drag 24/7. For many of us, our goal is to depreciate our masculine features and look as pretty as we can possibly can. Want to see how you'll look like a femme girl: Get a mac makeover, a good wig, and the clothes you intend to wear. Then set that as the goal... That way there are no surprises later on. Hormones do a lot, but you do most of the work.
Now I know a lot of people here are thinking drag queens are clowns with too much makeup. But as pics of my friend prove...it's all an subtractive science:
This is my friend on a day to day basis:

Many transluminaries such as Candis Cayne, Calpurnia Addams, Jessica Savano all got their start in drag. So it's about time that we start seeing drag queens as our "abstract" cousins and maybe learn a few things from them.

Tell your friend she looks amazing... and cute as a guy as well :)
Personally, I think we should accept everyone at their level of comfort.

No, but there's so much acid reserved for drags and members of the community who came from that. Unlike crossdressers, I think drags go out of their way to look feminine which is important even if the person behind it is a catty gay male.

I'm not hatin on tgirls who don't want to look feminine(i.e. tomboy types). But if you're into attracting cismen...femme is the way to go. Until some of us can afford ffs, makeup is the only way to go. Plus it's fun!

There are things far more fun than doing makeup...

Is that drag?
I always thought drag was when gay guys dressed up as girls in an over-the-top way for entertainment / kicks... not simply dressing female.
It seems to me she is maybe exploring trans things? That she is really just trying to explore her female side? I could easily see her deciding to transition...

Drag queens play women, women just are. Now guess which one is the better role model (hint: there are about 3.5 billion of them).

Yet men who were born women...still revert to acting like men and a lot of them can't survive without "coaching".
Drag queens are the median between cis and trans. Ciswomen are great, but few rarely look at transwomen objectively...straight men are hormone related, so I wouldn't listen to them...and gay men are objective without lust.

Drag= DRessed As Girl
You would be surprised how despite our best intentions, the mainstream cisworld sees as Drags. While that is partially right, transition goes beyond it.

I had to learn how to be girly mostly through the damn internet.
Reading makeup books, watching videos, looking at how androgynous models(because of their body shape) dress.
None of the females in my family taught me, because they really didn't know how.
They were under the impression that having a vagina is all they need to prove their femininity.
My boyfriend begs to differ x:

Same could be said about a lot of transwomen on a certain message forum.
But I learned from both trans and cis... both have knowledge.

Too be honest i never really liked drag queens growing up. I always just thought of them as ->-bleeped-<-s and crossdressers like on Jerry Springer, i never saw myself like that.

it took me a long time to get over that too. I always thought they were all like DIVINE. I thought the illusionist type looked like hot mamas.

When I came to the realization/acceptance of being trans (in a rural southern town), my first friend in the trans community was a drag queen. She helped me out quite a lot, and gave me advice on how to look right, most of which I didn't take :P We were as different as night and day, but that didn't matter. She was like my mother or sister.

The extra hotness that was brought out in my transition the last 6 months was due to a drag queen telling me I should stop being boring. It was kinda iffy if I was going to de-transition 6 months ago. She helped me bring out the evil inside.

@disco shark I am tomboyish but that don't change the fact that I want to look girly when I go out the door. I don't care who teachs me how to put on make up as long as it looks right on me. your friend looks nice to me. the clown thing could depend on where you are. I see clowns here where I live but not all.

Your friend is very pretty, Mahsa. I can't say I've ever met a drag queen - don't really live in the right world unfortunately. I've tended to picture them as the clown stereotype I'm afraid.
And thank you for the qualifiers at the beginning about tomboys. It's nice to feel remembered. Though actually I've found that I get more comfortable wearing makeup the more masculine my dress is... so I've been experimenting with it lately. I kinda like the femme face, butch clothing look on me. Need to acquire more makeup now. You've recommended MAC before, any other brands you like?

Anything but mac for foundation... They make great shadows and their brushes are perfect.
