Just curious... Has anyone here gone to Dr. Reed in Miami for SRS? His pricing is rather attractive, as is being in Miami while recovering.
I've read that he's very personable and has excellent bedside manner.
How is his work aesthetically?
Thanks!!!

(disclaimer: i'm only spayed/neutered)
he's a good doctor but the hotel choices for recovery are kinda limited (bay harbor islands and miami beach).
he checks on daily for changing dressing and other things. my therapist likes him also.

I chose Dr. Reed for my orchi earlier this year, so I can't speak to his SRS work. But I can tell you he's highly experienced in urologic surgery and knows precisely what he's doing. I found his personality a bit brusque, but not completely off-putting. He and his staff were gracious and kind.

I apologize for bringing an old thread back to life, but I'd like to offer my $0.02, for what it's worth.
I cannot speak for anyone other than myself, and with that out of the way...
Although he does perform a variety of other surgeries, my understanding is that Dr. Reed's specialty is reconstructive surgery. Apparently, he's highly skilled in that particular area.
I found Dr. Reed to be a highly skilled, competent and experienced surgeon. In terms of my SRS with DR. Reed, I'm very pleased. Aesthetically? Again, I'm very pleased. Ability to orgasm? Yes, and multiple orgasms at that ;D

I took my friend Maddie to Dr. Reed last year.
Here is my two part blog about the experience. Overall it was quite good and Dr. Reed is very compassionate.

In some circles I have been part of he is known as Doctor Reed the Butcher.
Had a friend who went to him around 2008. Let's just put it this way....instead of waking up in the recovery room, she woke up outside in the courtyard. Someone pushed the fire alarm as a joke and apparently they felt it was safe to wheel someone who is under outside without the medical equipment to monitor her breathing.
However, before the surgery she wasn't impressed by his bedside manner. He would never answer her questions, he only visited her for 5 minutes and then hardly at all after post surgery.
Others had said they needed post surgery work because of the workmanship of his.
These are the reasons why I did not pick him.
I am sure he is ok, but when I hear stories like that from honest people, I would rather not take my chances.
Vitals.com has his rating at 2.5 out of 5 (which is not good).
http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Harold_Reed (http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Harold_Reed)
http://www.scaminformer.com/scam-report/dr-harold-reed-dr-harold-reed-the-reed-center-dr-harold-reed-is-a-butcher-c20465.html (http://www.scaminformer.com/scam-report/dr-harold-reed-dr-harold-reed-the-reed-center-dr-harold-reed-is-a-butcher-c20465.html)
These aren't just reports I read about...I actually know girls personally who went with him with these experiences...one of these girls I dated in the past. I seen the work.
I know everyone have been giving you glowing reviews about him, but I felt you should hear the other stories too.

Annah,
I appreciate your honesty and candor very much. It's always helpful to see both sides of things so that one can make an informed decision, one way or the other.
SRS is a one-time thing. There are no second shots at it, and I'd rather be fully-informed than blissfully-unaware. SRS is for life and there are no "do-overs".
Thanks again, Annah! *hugs*

Hi Kelli,
I used to think that Dr Reed is a fantastic doctor and indeed some of his results are outstanding. I also heard some bad reports about him but none was supported with pics or real names of patients... I was shopping around for M2F SRS doctor and I sent him an e mail. I specifically asked about rectal fistula. In his answer he admitted that that happens in 10 % of his patients. Most of the doctors I have spoken to say it has happened once or twice in their carrier but in 1 out of 10 patients sounds too much of a risk. Also at the transbucket website I found pictures of results of Dr Reed F2M top surgery. You can judge the results yourself. So take everything into consideration and make up your choice. I wish you best of luck. And never let the price make you choose your doctor. Even though the price is an important issue revisions are always more expensive and there are things that cannot be corrected. You don't want to live a hell for the rest of your life just for a sake of few thousands.

If i were you i'd go somewhere else.
Dr. Reed will give you a vagina, but when it comes to depth, apperance, dialating and such he's not that good. He does SOOOOOOOOOOO Many patients a WEEK that his time is VERY Limited. He comes in the hotel room for 4-5 mins looks at everything and leave. His bedside manner isn't the greatest.
I did my labiaplasty with him and let's just say I HOPE AND PRAY None of you end up like I did, I almost DIED. If anyone wants to know more you can msg me, For legal reasons I can't give away to much info publicly.

After some further digging around the net I've officially ruled out Dr Reed as a possibility.
I've heard WAY too many complaints about him, and looking at the way he does things as "outpatient" makes him far less desireable.
To echo what many of you have said, SRS is a one shot deal and I'm not willing to risk it just for the sake of having it done.
Thanks again for all of the feedback. :-)

please help!!! I'm so scared! i think my vagina is perforated, it has a hole, tear and when i douche, the fluids somehow end up in my bowels! i immediately have to have a bowel movement but it is only water, nothing solid. when i dilate there is this very unattractive smell on the tip of my stents. i smell is and its not something that scream VAGINA! but not really feces either. its late so i really can't call the DR now. also, yesterday i finally removed the catheter and yup, i have burning after i urinate! so off to the ER, i have a damn UTI! i feel so scared. here is my story
on 7/6 i had surgery with dr reed in miami, i guess things went well or at least i thought! I'm young, 26. so the recovery process was a bit much, i've had other things and by far this was the most sustained discomfort i've experienced. i had chills, small fevers and even hot sweats! least to say i was NOT pleased. my dr brushed all things off as if they were normal "this is not unique, this happens all the time" i was told this when i called DR to complain about bladder pains, and fevers (101.2) and sweats. on the 7th day or 6th, not sure, my packing was removed, he and his sweet nurse were amazed at how lovely it looked 7 days post, and how fab it would be.... i imagine they tell EVERYONE this to ease comfort! the vagina is UGLY AS HELL at this point! but um, ok i never had one before so i'll shut up. so DR forcefully shows me how to dilate! it is very unpleasant! i ask does it suppose to hurt like it does now! its not something i think i can do 3 TIMES A DAY! for 15 mins! no, sorry! he does it for all of 2 mins and then shows me how to douche, and thats it! i leave the office feeling very dumb and very unfamiliar with my new vagina, or how to dilate myself properly! all i remember is that if u push down, this equals disaster!
a few days later, around day 10, I'm still getting fevers and my bladder is still feeling very odd yet familiar! when i say familiar i mean, UTI familiar! i have been getting them for YEARS and do not know y! just know the signs! but being that i have a catheter, i do not actually feel the peen going thru the urethra. again I'm dismissed by DR reed. day 14, i remove catheter, as per instructed and sure ensure when i pee.... it burns! so this wasn't NORMAL! like i assumed! , i need to see a damn dr asap! after my ER visit! its confirmed, i have blood in my urine! i have a UTI...
i do not want to really admit that i may have a damn hole inside my new vagina! or that i could have caused it! I've ALWAYS been cautious, almost too cautious! only person to dilate me with confidence was DR REED, and this was the only time that it hurt!.... i'll call him in the morning! but lord am i scared of what this will mean! I'm so sick of RECOVERING! i don't feel like it was a mistake YET, but i am not happy with something, i can't figure if its my choice in DR.

(dat thread necromancy, and please don't double post)
I would suggest going to an OB/GYN if there are concerns of a fistula, or simply for a post-op checkup which should happen anyways. Pending a visit, I would suggest changing the douche solution to something a little cleansing because of the foul nature of dead skin cells and old lubricant.
25 ml Hibiclens to one gallon (3.76 L) dematerialized water or about 1 ml to 150 ml water.
edit: bad math not that the increased concentration will hurt too bad

Hi,
Fever, blood and pain all sounds like an infection. You should start antibiotics as soon as possible. Hole inside your vagina. This sounds weird. How do you know there is a hole? If there was a fistula you would have bad smell coming from your vagina. Plus fistulas usually manifest after the packing has been removed. Do you have regular bowel movements? If so I don't think it is a fistula. But anyway you must be seen by a doctor as soon as possible. First thing in the morning call Dr Reed and explain your situation to him.

spoke with reed yesterday and its definitely a fistula, i do have horrible discharge! and very gasy, and no i do not have regular bowels, but then again i've never really had them but i know my body is not right at all! this is something special! so i just set up an appointment with a DR! does n e know the success rate with repairing small fistulas? dr reed isn't worried, said its a 3 out of 10 when asked how concerned should i be. he even insisted on my continued dilation. i do know how i feel about it yet, maybe after the specialist sees me tomorrow. pray for me!

If it is fistula you will need surgery as soon as possible. Dr Reed has a lot of experience with fistula repair because about 10 % of his patients get fistula. Let us know how did your appointment go.

There is not best doctor. They are all different. One can be best for your expectations as they all deliver different results. Even though this question was for Annah, I decided to answered it because you can only decide who is the best for you and you are the one who will have to live with the results of the surgery.

DR is putting me on a liquid diet and saying it will heal in 10-12 days! NO SURGERY needed!!! its a rather small fistula!!! only a small amount of liquid feces passes thru nothing solid at all! :-( sad thing is i can't find a DR in NYC to touch me after i told them i just had surgery! everyone wants me to go back to miami which i will do in 10-12 days if this thing hasn't healed! again, DR reed insisted that this is a #3 out of #10 BEING THE WORST! to worry about! so to him, its not a big deal and the LAST THING i need is surgery! i do not know how i feel being that every thing i have read consisted of SURGERY! but i will let time show me

I am sorry to hear your story, but you must get rational and understand that the medicine is nothing but a business and those doctors do it for money. The good side of the story is that you didn't go to him.
@nymia How are you doing sweetie? Any progress with the liquid diet? I am very worried for you. Please let me know how you are doing.

I have to concur with this statement.
In terms of WHO is the best ever, that is always up to speculation and the opinions of others. However, in my "personal" opinion, the best in the world is Suporn followed by Dr. Brassard. In regards to whom I like in the US, I chose Dr. McGinn
I picked her because:
1. She works 1 hour from my location
2. She has received four out of four stars by the Vitals and Medical commission
3. She has a very high rating among her peers
4. She has almost 15 years of experience doing this
5. Her bedside manner is exemplary
I strongly urge people to research your doctors before choosing one. Sadly, if the girl with the fistula issue had seen this thread prior or had researched Dr. Reed, she may not have been in such dire straits with a fistula. Fistulas can happen. However, they are more likely to occur when a doctor channels to closely to a rectum. In my opinion, that's a sign of rushed work.

+1 for Dr McGinn from the USA doctors. I love her, even though I have never seen her
My favorite SRS doctor is Dr Ch, not because he did my SRS but I believe he is the best SRS doctor out there. I think that the Canadian team is great also.

I spoke to him twice over the phone and that was enough for me to rule him out. I know a person's personality is not indicative of their skills but, I do not want to feel like I'm at his mercy.

Two of my friends have recently (w/in the past year) had surgery with him and are very pleased with the outcomes and with the care they got.

I had srs surgery with Dr. Reed in 2014.
His work was much better than I expected.
The staff was great. I knew it was going to be painful and I'm a woosie when it comes to pain, but did just fine.
I would reccomend Dr. Reed and staff to anyone.
Sincerely,
Dana
