Title: Facebook
Post by: MsDazzler on December 19, 2011, 09:25:39 PM
Questions regarding Facebook -

1) How many of you have a FB profile as a female with real pics of yourself either en femme or not, not avatars or random pics?

2) How many of you are out and open about being trans on your FB?

3) How many of you are friends with each other on FB?

:)

My answers for my own questions:

1) Yes, I do

2) I used to hide it, but now open about it

3) Not yet - after all I am still relatively new here, heh

1)  Yes, I am female on my profile and I have only two pics of me on Facebook as I currently look, nothing special (my avatar on this forum being one of the pics)
2)  Those who are my friends on FB know I'm trans.  Beyond that, it's not mentioned.
3)  I'm friends with only one other person several people from this forum.

Edit:  Updated my post since this thread was brought back from the grave.

1) I have only one pic of myself on Facebook, and privacy-limited to only people I know well (deleted a few other pictures of myself I put on Facebook before though)
2) I am not open about it
3) Like stldrmgrl I'm only friends on Facebook with one other person from this forum

I don't have that I'm trans on my facebook, just female, my real pics and pics of my dog and other stuff. But everyone on my fb knows I am trans as they are actual friends and family, plus I do regularly post on trans related pages. No, I don't have anyone from here on there, just as I don't have any other transpeople as friends on there, too many seem to tend to connect to profiles with innappropriate pics, etc. and I have my nieces and such on there and I would just as soon not expose them to it.

My only account on FB is of me. 100% female 100% correct gender presentation in my pics. 100% pics of me. No stolen ones or "borrowed from a relative" ;)

Quote2) How many of you are out and open about being trans on your FB?

You would have to look very hard to find anything of me being transgender on FB. I do have a lot of pro LGBT things on it. However, on my FB, I am just Annah.

Being "trans" just isn't how I identify myself anymore.

Quote3) How many of you are friends with each other on FB?

I have a few people on here that I am friends with on FB

1) I use my avatars here. Including my Predator av now. I have like 700 photos of myself up there. My pics are really me.

I DON'T IDENTIFY AS TRANS ON FB. I just let people interpret me as is...Most people whigged out when I told them. LOL

2) I know several people from the board and we corresponded regularily...along with my gay male, drag queens, and transgender performer friends. My ex boyfriend who I am having sex with and current men I am dating are on there with my boyfriend...Oddly, no issues yet.

3) Everyone knows each other...But no one says anything. Until I met people in person, I didn't tell them and they were still surprised. Most of the gay men assumed I was some fruitfly who went too far in her gay obsession.

I'm out on facebook as going through a gender transition, because all my facebook friends are, well, my friends.

My photos on there range from blokey older ones to more female new ones. It's interesting for me (and others) to see how I'm changing.

I don't have any facebook friends yet from here, but that's not deliberate, it just hasn't happened yet. I've a number of trans facebook friends from my local support group.

Only my friends can see my facebook profile anyway.

I'm not out to anyone so I don't have any gender selected, it did assume I was female for a time despite having nothing selected on it.

My profile pictures are just solid colours because I don't want a boy mode picture up.

My only profile on Facebook is as me.  I never felt comfortable making one until I could mark it appropriately.  It was actually really restricted for a long time, but once I came out we loosened it (searchable now and most posts are friends of friends).  Even before my legal name change I was Jeneva on Facebook and it is marked female.  My current main profile pic is the same as my avatar here, but I have used pictures of me as my profile before I started work on this sleeve and there are many in my albums.  I don't dress drag/drab.  I dress as me always.  I will point out that I'm not ultra fem though.  Since I work at home and don't run around town most days, jeans and a tee is a normal outfit.

This current avatar I use isn't an attempt to hide, but rather a conceptual representation and my (cis) wife uses the other Fae on my sleeve as hers.

I had to be out and open since pretty much all of my friends are ones I met through my wife or old college/work friends.  She also has some older photos of me on her profile (wedding pictures for example).  It is funny, while I've never been one to have dozens of friends at any particular place, pretty much every single one of the people I have put into my close circle of friends at some point in my past has had no problem accepting me.

As I have not yet had all the surgeries I desire I do ID as transsexual on my profile.  We're also still struggling with acceptance vs tolerance from some of my wife's family so we post a lot of LGBT stuff (and probably will from now on since if they accept me as T then they have to accept us both as L or B.  We also post a lot of just day to day stuff so it isn't just pure LGBT posts.

I have one other transwoman on my friend list that I have met in person a few times.  She works at the salon where I was having my extensions put in before I decided to go down the FFS route instead.

I generally only send friend requests to people I actually know, but I usually accept any friend requests I get.  I have several friends on my list just from people that we met at any of the local festivals we do (my wife makes candles/soap that we use as a fundraiser for our JDRF walk).  As long as a person is not offensive or hostile I generally keep them on the list.

Same as Annah.

I only have friends from high school and family on FB so they're all aware but it's not something I talk about on my profile.

I'm friends with one person from here and that's Mahsa. ;)

I am on facebook as me. I just changed name and gender a couple years ago.

So I have pics of me that go back to the male days up to the present.

I am not in the closet about being trans at all but I tend to try and moderate my conversations about too much trans topics as I have some friends on my list that are stealth and prefer to keep it that way.

1) I have a FB profile as my "true" self, Connie, with pictures of myself en femme.

2) I am open about being trans on FB.

3) I have some friends from Susans on FB as well.

I had two accounts for a while: one as Connie and my original account as David. I eventually closed my David account about a month after posting a "coming out" note.

Wow - I have friends on FB from all walks of life and from my different periods in my life - even one night stands that I have had - we are on FB. lol.

I just am totally lazy with texting or emailing to keep in touch with everyone and prefer using FB instead.

FB is where things combine...and you're not expecting them too.

Yeah...I've had sex with people on my facebook list.

Oh, no one is remotely surprised at that?

Yes I have a FB account, it is me and many of you know it.

It also lets me keep contact with friends who have left S, and other friends. I have nothing to hide.

Why bother if you want/need to hide?

That's where I was coming from if you want/need to hide stuff don't use social networks.  We had some report that an USA politician posted pics of his penis; he called it his sausage? on facebook and got upset when he was sacked.   I mean to say? How dumb can you get?

I have a FB account under my female name (and haven't used my old one in a while, actually) but so far I haven't added any photos yet. This will change somewhere after New Year when I will actually be taking the first photos of myself. For now my avatar is the same is it currently is here.

Only people that know I'm trans are on my FB, but that being said if I meet new people I will also add them to that FB. It's not like I'm just telling everyone and their dog about it, but I'm not trying to hide it either. If I get asked, I'll answer honestly.

I've got a few people from on here on my FB as well. I think I have 4 or 5 people? Not quite sure. :P

I am a little strange, I think - I love adding people I met in real life even if it is just an one-time encounter, but from online or in chatrooms, I am a little skeptical about adding them in FB if I have not met them yet.

I totally do. Actually, I just put up my first a few days ago. I'm not full-time yet, but I will be in another four or five months.

2) How many of you are out and open about being trans on your FB?
I am open about it. I think the trans-community needs more visibility, haters be damned.  ;D

I do, I am, and no, I have no friends from this site.

Maybe it's my style. Friends are often more effort than they're worth... though there is without doubt a number of precious gems that are no effort to care about.
