Title: Thoughts on rhinoplasty?
Post by: lauren3 on December 22, 2011, 06:35:26 AM
I guess this is a more general question for the board, but how do you feel about nose jobs?

I'm not 100% happy with my nose at all - however I have my fears about rhinoplasty in terms of how it changes the perception of your face. Considering the nose takes up a great amount of space - I'm personally worried that I wouldn't look like 'me' anymore. Does that make sense? Having a different nose scares me a little bit. I'd kill for a cis-feminine one but I have my concerns. The other FFS procedures I'm fine with however.

I'm not an expert on the topic but are surgeons capable of making the nose more feminine; but without changing the overall 'look' of a persons face too dramatically?

How do we feel generally on the subject?

I had a nose job back in 2007 and I'm so glad I did. It is much more feminine. It does change your overall appearance a little bit but not that drastically. When I came back from surgery, my family couldn't even tell what I had done.

Depends on what you want done.

Changing the shape will change how your whole face looks. For example, going from a convex nose to a straight nose to a concave nose, like 3 different people.

Reducing nostril flare can only improve you appearance. People with flared nostrils tend to look like Orcs.

Narrowing the nose is pretty much hit or miss. Bridge and tip width should match, sometimes it isn't possible to narrow a tip as much as the bridge, and bridgework is usually done first. If you want to preserve your current look get a surgeon that will do what you want without changing the side profile, or persisting in something that will have a disasterful outcome.

I always hated my nose, its wide and protrudes from my face too far.
It's my dad's exact nose so that explains why I go crazy about it - I haaate it.
If I could fix it, I'd want to bring it in closer and take the hump out of it.
I'm not sure what nose shape goes with me, I'd like for it to be a bit narrower and slightly concave.
But I also don't want a MJ nose, so if i could just get the first two things fixed then I would be waaaaaay happier.

I think people end up with a MJ nose as a result of too many nose jobs. So, hopefully the surgeon will get it right for you the first time around.

surely the idea of FFS and rhino for a MtF is to look different?

I feel that I look more like me after the nose job. I tend to think of the surgery as reparative, fixing the nasty ->-bleeped-<- that testosterone did to my body. And mine was modelled on my sister's nose, so we look more alike now which is cool.

I think the OP just wants to look like herself but female version and not look like a completely different person.

My nose is the result of contouring with makeup...Until I can get the bump and lower septum removed. I had an andro nose before... Now it's more femme due to hormones/makeup.

But nose has a lot to do with how beauty is perceived and the overall balance of the face.
